I have added two blog entrys at once, so I could get two photos in (so check out the out the previous one also)! When I figure this thing out a bit more hopefully we`ll get some of our own up.
This photo is of a temple in Kyoto, which we are going to visit next week, but I popped it in as it`s similar to what we saw today at Nara.
Nara is a nearby city (8th century capital infact) that contains temples, shrines, gardens and free-range deer (complete with antlers and `bambi-style` white dots!). The garden was tranquil and full of native Japanese plants, small twisted trees, little bridges over streams and stone monuments (hope I painted some sort of picture for you there!). The temples and shrines were amazing, especially Todaiji Temple which is the largest wooden structure in the WORLD and houses a huge golden sitting Buddha. It was so impressive!!
The weather has been hot and humid and yesterday we had a downpour. We are slowly acclimatising!
The food has been an adventure in itself. We`ve had raw fish (nice with say sauce); had a `noodle-meat-cabbage-pancake` (okonomiyaki) fried on a plate infront of us and last night went to a resturant where you bbq your own meat on a bbq in the middle of the table. It`s all new but all good fun! At the bbq restaurant it was also all you can drink and eat (which we took full advantage of!). They continued to bring us plate after plate of raw meat - great!!
