Tokyo
Full of confidence we left Osaka and our fluent Japanese resident behind (Ben), whos house we`d been staying at.
Despite one little hiccup of boarding a terminated train, and being the only ones sat on there for 5 mins, we eventually made it to Capital Tokyo.
We had managed to stay in a hotel for cheap using a similar web system to last minute.com. It was fab, with the main highlight beinhg a BIDET in our room and a OSEN (Japanese style sauna). The Japanese Sauna inolved a pre bathing wash where your sat down on a stool, facing a mirror naked and are expected to cleanse yourself from head to foot, alongside other naked Japanese people before entering the hot spa water or cold plunge pool. If needed one could also use a modesty towel to cover ones bits!!
In 1 day and 1 night we did a whistle stop tour of the main areas of Tokyo.
We saw a huge golden buddist temple (Senso-ji) in Asakusa. In Ginza we saw a vibrant shopping district similar to the posh parts of London (not Tooting) with Gucci shops and the like. Here we also visted the Sony exhibition tower where they showcased all their lateset products and research.
Without Ben our translator I (Matt) came a little unstuck ordering a meal in Shibuya..what i thought would be a meal heavy on meat, was in fact the fatty skin of chicken and ginger noodles.
Shinjinku was the hot spot of Tokyo which had departmet stores, flashing neon lights, push and shove crowds, street side video screens, strip bars and massive amounts of amusement arcades. We did venture into the latter! Finally we saw many LADY BOYS strutting the streets---thought this would be a treat in Thailand not JAPAN!!
