11th-24th Jan

First real couple of days in Melbourne was spent wandering around with Steve just getting our bearings. I joined fitness first which means I now have no excuse to not keep myself fit so spent every other day throwing myself round the gym sorting myself out. On the 13th Matt, Chelle, Adam and Bobs rolled into town so popped over to St Kilda on the tram to see them. Hadn?t seen them since new year so was good to catch up. We popped out in the evening for a couple and watch the Liverpool game. During the game I had a phone call from Ronan and Sharon who I met in Fiji. They were staying round the corner so they popped in for a drink. Good to see them again. All 6 of us met up the next day and took a walk round the city and had a couple of beers and a general catch up 15th saw us all head to the Elephant and Wheelbarrow for Neighbours night to meet the stars. It was real cheesy but great fun. On the way over I bumped into Tom Day who works at my place in Chichester.Weird!!. Anyway, I met Paul Robinson, Janelle and Todie and got them all to record a message for my good buddies Rob and Gemma who were getting married back home.Class. After that excitement Steve and I went and checked out the old Melbourne gaol, where Ned Kelly was put up and hung. Bit creepy as all the cells had busts made from the last residents dead heads. Nice. The following Monday I had to go to Neighbours night again, and I went with Ronan and Shaz. This time I met Kataya, Boyd and Todie (again!), and Karl Kennedys band were there, and they actually weren?t that bad.
Whilst I was in Melbourne the Australian Open was on so one evening Ro, Shaz and I all went to watch a couple of games. We watched Monfils v Gasquet in the Vodafone arena and then watched some doubles on the show courts. It was pretty cool checking this out as I had never been to a tennis match before so it was all good.

Managed to catch a coupl of Pompey games on the box which me, my mate Adam and a couple of other fellas from the hostel went and watched arly in the am. One evening Ruth and Amy from team ocean road suggested going to a gay bar, this was obviously met with a resounding no for us lot, but in the end we decided to check it out. Big mistake, this place was the size of a small room and was wall to wall micers. We actually found it quite funny at first, but once we all started getting hit on and our arses pinched we realized it was time to leave. We did all say at least we got chatted up as we all agreed we would have been quite offended if we hadn?t got chatted up. Still I won?t be repeating the experience any time soon.

24th Jan was my last day in Melbourne as I had decided to head back to Sydney to meet Kev and Beck. I killed time during the day wandering around the Grand Prix track which was cool, before heading back on the monster 15 hour bus journey back up the coast. Great!!

Until next time.
