Day 6 Montreal- Ottawa.
Left our hotel around 08.00hrs for our short drive to Canada's capitial Ottawa the coach drive lasted approx 2hrs, you could feel that the people on the coach were getting excited because Ottawa is a very nice city with great history. I was interested because one of Guernsey finest military leaders fought during Canada's most troubled times and was shot by a sniper, his tunic with the snipers single bullet shot hole is on show in the military museum. But for all to see is a statue of him and other famous genarals over lookingthe rideau canel. When we arrived into the city the coach parked up alonside the Parliamant Buildings also known as the hill, this is home to the federal goverment and it possess a certain gothic romance, It is a carbon copy of the houses of parliament in London? The centre block is the Peace Tower this is a sight to behold. Another great stop off is the Canadian Museum of Civilization this houses totem poles from the northwest coast, also the Grand Hall Indian Art Exhibit is worth a look. Our mini tour took in Sussex drive,Rideau Hall. Ottawa has a nice blend of British an French which mixes well. Ottawa is a plesent surprise I didnt know what to expect of this city but I like it, It has a good feel to it. The Rideau Canal looks great it is the most popular year round venue for festival celebrations. Once the tour had finished we all checked into the hotel at around 16.30hrs. Also almost forgot the market is good to look around, biu be careful if you go into a nearby art gallery, looks great inside but don't take any photo's Martyn and I got told off? In the evening went in to a local bar for a drink and met up with a couple of locals they did'nt have a clue where Guernsey was so I draw a map on a shopping bag so they now know? Ate at a local fish restaurant snails to start the King crab tasty. Back to Hotel for another early wake up call. Tomorrow The thousand Island and then Toronto.
