Where in the World is Dan O?
Traveling
On Tuesday, It was a full day of traveling. I stood up all night in order to make sure we could catch a bus for the airport. The bus never came at 5 am so we took a taxi. Then we hoped over to Germany. There we had a 7 hour layover and instead of waiting in airport during that time, we explored the city with our backpacks and with full gear. Alie had her travel book and we took our very own walking tour with the help of the book. Our first stop was at the Berlin gate. While there we grabbed some food, I had to have a bratwurst in Berlin. Next stop we saw was the new parliament building. It has a pretty cool roof since the first one was blown up severely during the war. They had a huge flag out front; I wanted it but could exactly buy one that big. We stopped at the Jewish memorial to the death camps. The stones do not stand for any exact number of people but it was still very breathtaking and sad. It was absolutely amazing. The last stop we took before heading back to the airport was the Berlin wall. We walked the line where it stood. The pieces that are still there were impressive. It was very interesting to see the difference of business when looking at the west side compared to the east side of the wall. The graffiti on the wall was very detailed. Steven and Andrea, You would love to see the art on these walls. It was very interesting to see the bombed out buildings still standing. For example a church still stands with half a steeple and half of the main building. It is a symbol of what the city has been through. After our short and extensive tour we set off for Greece, where our vacation began!
