Berlin-
Arrived in Berlin after several hours. As it turns out, we spend two nights in each country but as for the days, we only spend one real day in that country. Every other day we spend most of the day traveling to the next city. I was so glad to finally get into Berlin because I would be able to see my buddy Till one last time before I head back to the states. We arrived and put our stuff into the hotel and rested a bit before dinner. Afterwards I gave Till a call and took us out to a small pub where we sat and drank some beers with his sister and some of their friends. His sister has a friend who is an Aussie (Helen) going to work in Berlin for a year in Graphic Design and she was practicing her German. I picked her brain on the possibilities of graphic design jobs in Berlin; apparently they are plentiful but competitive. Later we met with Till and visited the night life in underground discos.
The next morning as always is an early one Weird thing is, I wouldn’t have it any other way though. Bright and early we headed off on a historical walking tour with a very good guide. The walking tour was actually on a bus which was so much better since it was freezing cold outside. The wind chill fact just cuts right through you. The tour was three hours and I learned a lot more than the previous times I visited Berlin. Very satisfied with that tour. Afterwards Austin and I bought a couple of tickets to the Check Point Charlie Museum. It was so much larger than I imagined and the amount of information in there was mind-boggling. My favorite quote I read was “Life threatening situations is the creator of creative inventions” The civilians of east Berlin had to think of new ideas to escape the terrible situations that they endeavored in east Berlin. Some creative ideas was hidden compartments in cars, in boxes, underground tunnels and hot air balloons.
After the museum we met Till once again and went to a large mall and shopped around. I finally found something for myself and bought it. It was quite an investment but I am very satisfied with my choice. I bought a warm pea coat that are so popular over here for me. It can be used in multiple conditions and especially with business. A little Christmas gift to me I guess.
Austin and I went back to the hotel to change and shower. We were invited to dinner over at Till’s parents place. It was his mother birthday celebration. Her birthday was actually earlier in the month but due to Christmas and new years they decide to celebrate after Christmas in order to have everyone over. It so nice and fun. We had a meat fondue and salads. So delicious and was an excellent dinner. I love till’s family and they are so generous. Austin was very impressed with the family on how nice and hospitable they were.
After the great dinner, till was able to get us on a guest list at a very popular discoteca named FELIX and we spent the rest of the night and morning there. It was a great time. I am going to miss Till but I hope I can return the hospitality soon with him coming to stay in the United States.
Now we are off to Prague, Czech Republic. Another fun day of traveling is in store.
