Well this week has been hard, but not like last week. Hard in a different way. The girls were stubborn, the boys where in their own worlds. Another difference was that we weren't in Caypinar. Myself and Natalie went into Walkers to join Ciara.
The boys (counsellors) were Dan the dorm director, Sean, Jordi, Jerry and Jason, the other boys (campers) were Alec, Dylan, James, Jacob, Eric, Aaron, Hunter and Matthew (day). Hunter was sent home after one day as he was too agressive - Ciara has the bruise to prove it and he had to be restrained. Aaaron was a sweetie when he was behaving, I have the nails marks to show how much I worked with him. Dylan and Jacob were angles although it was funny when Dylan hit Jason in the balls! James was stubborn as hell, Eric ate everything (and I mean everything, from the plate, from the ground, from the toilet, from the toiletries) and Matthew was obsessed with the Wiggles DVD which would be so bad but hearing the same 20 second clip over and over for an hour becomes torture!
I managed to get out of going to the talent show again due to being on Alec duty which consists of walking around site and keeping him away from the nurses station. I think that it eventually became a game to him. In the begining he fought to get up there to trash the office but in the end he tried pretending to cry, I told him to stop pretending and he smiled and walked away. Even "pulling" my hair ended up being a game.
Wednesday - the kids arrive and the week starts well with ice breakers including singing pirate songs and generally being silly. We all do the night duty until midnight.
Thursday - Up early as the boys are causing chaos but everything gets done. Everyone in the pool - I have a sneaky feeling that we enjoyed it more than the kids! Hunter's behaviour gets worse and he is restrained at dinner after hitting Ciara so many times (we had a tally going) and eventually sent home that night. Everyone goes up to the top field to play baseball. Mick even runs his wheelchair-bound camper round to a home run then, funnily enough, decided not to do it again!
Friday - In the morning, we were visited by "Bounce and Oohlala" and their son Daniel - a family circus act. There was juggling, plate spinning, ball walking, uni cycling, and everything all combined. Strangley the handsome Daniel got a bigger applause than his parents. Aaron got up once to look at their equipment, but the boy with ants in his pants was happy to sit back down with me and watch. The act was brilliant and involved the kids as much as possible. Evening activity is the treasure hunt and we get all confused as the clues could be either of two places and we get them all wrong!
Saturday - Campfire! Our dorm song goes ok considering non of the kids sing it and half of the counsellors - including myself - know it. Fire food is baked apple with cranberries, sultanas, orange and cinnamon. Another good idea from Blair. Aaron amazed me by sitting still for the entire two hours, even singing along to a couple of the songs and he didn't scratch me once.
Sunday - movie night and, as the theme this week was pirates, we watched "The Goonies". Dan woke at 6 the next morning to Jacob reciting parts of the film and laughing to himself.
This was the one day where I felt homesick. After Aaron had another outburst at me I was tired and had had enough. A letter from Angela perked me up but then sitting on my own at the movie with Dylan in the far corner from everyone I just felt sad. Once all the kids were in bed I hid round the back of the dorm and had a little cry. Felt a lot better after.
Monday - It's nearly over, just one more day. Aaron goes for it again after the talent show. He sits in his normal place next to the wall at the dinner table with me next to him and for no apparent reason he goes for it with added kicking, jumping and screaming. Jordi comes to the rescue and swops with me so that I can go on my break. Cue a trip to Judys to eat chocolate and get things off my chest - without but very close to crying. After some complaining and b****ing about two particular counsellors, I went back to get some food. Blair gave me good advice and a big hug. I went back with feeling slightly better. The day (and week) ends well with a night duty with the gorgeous Jordi.
Tuesday - Kids are gone by 12.30, pay cheques are given out with the tips from last week and we start planning where to go after lunch. Me, Ciara, Helena, Shante and Judy are off to Ronkonkoma to see the new Harry Potter at midnight. OMG amazing film.
Wednesday - Bus trip to Tanger for a serious shopping trip and a very windy taxi ride home, then to CVS and for pizza. Much money spent.
Thursday - chill out day. Laundrey, reading, swedish fish fight with Natalie and the brief for next week.
Now for Caypinar to prepare for boys :-)
