After an okay night of sleep (the beds are pretty comfortable but we can hear the traffic too easily from eighth avenue) Joey, Fernando, Jon and I took the train down to Battery Park and the Seaport - areas I never explored when I lived in NYC in the 70s. (A Vinny Verelli hint - if you want to get discount tickets for Broadway shows, don't stand in line at the TKTS booth in Times Square that opens at 2 pm and is FULL of tourists. Take the train down to the Seaport/Battery Park for the TKTS booth there - it opens at 11 am, there are only a few people standing in line, and you have the rest of your day to sightsee - or whatever you want to do.) We strolled down to the water and saw the Peking - looks like a pirate ship. Then went for lunch at Fraunces Tavern, where Gary Cheatham, another college buddy, joined us for lunch. Fraunces Tavern has been around since the 1700s where George Washington bid farewell to his troops. I had a lovely cobb salad, but the boys all wanted chicken pot pie. Joey enjoyed it - but chef Vinny wasn't too impressed. They had a very impressive collection of whiskeys - bourbon and scotch - but we weren't drinking. After lunch we walked to the American Indian Museum where Washington was inaugurated on the front steps. From there we walked to Battery Park and passed by the Sphere that was created by Fritz Koenig as a symbol of world peace. It was damaged September 11, 2001 and was placed where it currently resides as a temporary memorial. Also saw the Universal Soldier Memorial and the Museum of Jewish Heritage. We then took a train back up to midtown where we freshened up for Joey's first Broadway show 'SOMETHING ROTTEN'. If you have the opportunity, it is a wonderful, amazing musical with tons of Shakespearean references as well as current music and television references. Well acted, terrifically costumed, wonderful sets, - everything was terrific. Vinny's idea was to start the evening at Sardi's for a drink before the show, at intermission, and after the show, before going to Juniors for dinner! Corned beef, pastrami, salami and cheese, typical Jewish deli food, but sadly, not very good food or service. Of course, it was day one of the World Series, and I think our waiter was paying more attention to the TV than us. But what a full day!

Roxana So far so good!!!! you are a great tourist! good observer and great memory. Can't wait to see what's next! all the best to you both, R.
Eda Great Day! Great Tip about TKTS. Who knew about George's farewell to the troops or that he was inaugurated in NYC!! Either I was so not paying attention in school or they did not talk about it. I suspect the former. OMG....we will be able to win at Jeopardy by the time you return! I heard Something Rotten was great! Glad to have it confirmed. Congratulations, Joey. I hope you loved it!
edaghallinan P S: Local update: We are getting a lot of signatures on the PPD's! We have about 400. Goal 1000 by next Thursday.
