Actually we dragged ourselves out of bed this morning… For some reason we both had difficulty sleeping. However we got dressed and ran downstairs for a very quick breakfast in the hotel, and managed to get to our cajun/Creole cooking class, watched the preparation of crawfish etoufee, chicken and andouille gumbo, bananas Foster, pralines, and then we got to eat it for lunch. I forgot to mention on yesterday's post that one of the women who worked at the cooking store used to live in Beachwood Canyon, and Laurel Canyon back in the 60s, and we had a wonderful time chatting with her about her memories of hippie days in our town. Her daughter apparently lives in Los Angeles now, it seems sort of more Silverlake area, and her son is planning on coming out to visit, so she said she was going to send him over to our guest suite. We also of course talked about flan - she also makes flan, so once again Joey has someone to do a cook off with when she visits her daughter. Then we hightailed it back to the hotel to finish packing, check out, and get a taxi to the port, where we boarded our very first Crystal Cruise ship. The ship itself wasn't that impressive at first glance but there were some elegant touches. Lots more shelving and cabinets, and the bathroom had more space than anything we have had before. The veranda is nice, but as it has been raining everything is wet. It will be lovely tomorrow. Once we unpacked we set out to find where our creole cooking class was being held tonight (yes, I had signed us up for another cooking class) and it turned out to be back on shore, at the New Orleans school of cooking- with some different dishes, and different techniques! And we got to eat that meal as well!!! Back in the ship we finished unpacking and Joey said he had to get up early for his camera class - so we went to sleep early. But before we sign off, happy birthday to Rebecca, Joey's son's fiancée!!
