As you know yesterday was my (amys) birthday - (we tried to write the blog yesterday but the computer wasnt working and deleted it all after I wrote it which we were not impressed with). We decided to do something noice for my birthday. There are lots of water sport type activity things here, so we chose to do whit water rafting, which only cost about 25 euros and was two hours so it wasnt a bad price really.
First in the morning we went to walk down to the lake to get some money from a bank, and also got some breakfast. We have concluded that Slovene hot chocolate is better than Italian hot chocolate, by far. So we sat in a funny little wooden cafe down the road the hostel is on and had hot chocolate for breakfast. Then we got picked up in a FUN RAFTING! truck, at 10 to 11 am, and got driven to the river where we would be doing it. We were given dashing wetsuits, life jackets and helmets we made us look a bit like a teenage mutant ninja turtle, and were told how to sit on the boat by our rafting guy- and yes there is a specific way to sit, apparantly. Not too far in, not too far out, but just on top. Then we had to put our feet under the ropes in the raft so that "if you lean out the boat when we hit rocks you can pull yourself back in" which sounded one of those things that would be easier said than done. Me and Anna only had flip flops on, which was tricky, cause the ropes hurt your feet and the rafting guy said we would have to take them off when we were walking in the river because the current would sweep us away. So we got straightin the boat and did some rafting. We are pretty good paddlers now, by the way, as Anna will also explain later on in the blog about TODAY'S travels!
So we did some raftin. Then he said we can relax on the quiet bits and go in the water if we liked. So we did, not realising how effing cold it was until we got in. There were two Norwegians and a girl from New Zealand with us too, and they were nice. Bit too keen to get into the water though, me and Anna decided ice cold water is not our cup of tea. Its almost a trick because the water is so clear and light blue and inviting, but when we had got back in the boat the rafting man said that it was actually ten degrees. GREAT!
We thought it would be a bit more choppy but it was still fun, and there were quiet bends where you could admire the views. At one point you could hear absolutely nothing apart from birds, which was weird, but also nice. Then we got out of the boat and he said we would do something called "body surfing". Sounds exciting but its really just floating down the river on your back, pushed along by the currents. me and Anna waded in but because we had bare feet, it was much more slippy and ended up being pushed over by the currents and swept along in the shallow bits. It is very frustrating to be grinded against the river bed at that temperature and at that speed, clinging to your flipflops and simultaneously trying to swim back to the shore. Then we rafted to a bridge that we were allowed to jump off, which me and Anna mulled over until we realised that the bridge was 7metres high and underneath were more rapids. We decided against the jump in the end but two people from our raft did it.
At the end we were allowed to have a disc of photos the man had took for an extra ten euros, but to be fair the photos werent great, and mostly unflattering of our faces at the shock of hitting such cold water! So we might be emailed some photos by one girl from our group who bought the disc. Meanwhile, you can enjoy our dead sexy photo Anna took pre rafting instead! YUSSS.
Later after rafting we went to a bathing bit of the lake, which you had to pay two euros fifty to get into but we were going crazy on the spending cause it was my buffday. Then we sunbathed on the decking for a bit, and went for a swim. Well I went for more of a swim, but it took us about fifteen minutes to get into the water because it was SOH COLD! Not as cold as the river, but being in a lake is weird, you cant see the bottom and there are fish swimming past you all the time, so cut some slack. We were planning to swim to the island on the lake but as we couldnt really reach a few metres in the water we decided to come up with another plan of reaching it.
Then later we got a pizza from a friendly pub/pizzeria and restaurant from down our road and ate it in front of the lake, and then when we walked past there was a man playing an instrument which i cant remember the name of in the restaurant and we bopped to it for a while which he very much appreciated and said "ahhh danke danke!" to us, because he was German. And then Anna wanted to go in and watch him, because shes a sucker for street entertainment. And he was really good and there were lots of German people there clapping so we clapped too and pretended to know the words. And good job we did go in because we got free drinks!! Oh yus. They were only little drinks but we both thought we were starting to feel the effects after about half of them, and then decided it was definitly because their drink here is really strong and not because we are lightweights. Then we went back to the hostel and ate some more pizza. Overall it was a vairy nice day, and we both really like Slovenia.
Now its my part of the day (Anna). I WENT SKY DIVING! It was ruddy brilliant. We did a bit of sunbathing this morning and a massive dead fish floated past. So that was pretty nice, definatly added a little something to the day I though. But sky diving... yes.
So we left at about 1.30 and the owner of the hostel (Castle Hostel, if any of you are coming here, bonzer!) drove me and B to the air field about 10 minutes away. We watied around for about half an hour and then they gave me a form to sign that said it was ok if I died. That I new the risks and potential death and stuff. Then they gave me a delightful jumpsuit (which you will see if you look in the photo album, 'ave a browse, go on!) which I donned willlingly, while B took pictures. That was her job. Taking pictures. Then they put me in a harnes and mumbled something about sticking my hips out and my legs tucked in when we jump. I was all like, yeah sure, but really I wasnt really listening becuase I was so friggin' pumped!!!!!!! Then we hopped in the plane which was small. And we flew for about 20 mintes over the mountains and stuff. Apparently this on its own costs 75 euros! I wasnt aware that it was a "panaromic flight" though so didnt pay attention as much as I should have done.
Then after a while my man tapped the man (there was another jumping-couple in there, a pair if you will) and they rolled up the flap of material. Si, material. Sheer matieral between me and 2 miles. HECK! Hands on seats.
So they rolled it up and sat on the edge. Then the man strapped infront in the other pair stuck his tounge out at me in a kind of "yeaaah rock out!" kind of way. I was not impressed. Then the behind guy just kind of fell forwards. It was so quick! I looked out but I couldnt even see them. I didnt see them until I was on the ground again.
So then we shuffled forwards, and I was completely out of the plane, sitting on his lap whilst he was pearched like a bird on the edge. Crazy! Then he shouted some Slovenia and I laughed (becuase me and B have learnt to laugh when people speak to us in different languages, its generally the responce least greeted with a wierd look). And then he just fell forwards! It was crazy! And I was falling! Just like that! Falling 2 miles! Me! Falling in the air! Mental. So we kind of flew right for a second as soon as we fell out the plane, or maybe we didnt, maybe that was just becuase the plane was flying. Then I was lying on my tummy in the air. And I could see air rushing past. Like in a cartoon, like lines showing how quick it was. I could see them! And I couldnt really open my mouth to shout or swear which was probably a good thing. And it was quite hard to breath so I did lots of quick breaths like I was hyperventalating. But GAWSH it was ruddy swell!
Then all of a sudden he pulled the parachute out and it went quite and my ears popped which was funny and we wofted down. And then he goes, quick take the parachute, take it! So I took it and did some swirls and stuff. But my arms werent long enough so he took it back after a while. Then he "prepped me for landing" and said I should tuck my legs up and hold them but I couldnt really becuase I was being squashed down by him and he said if you dont lift your legs higher I will break them when I land. So i tried to but they still werent very high. But he didnt break my legs so its ok. Then I was victorious so did the victory dance while B took up her job of taking pictures again. She was good at that.
Then we came back and thought about how brave I am for a while. I have a certificated and everything! And apparently the guy I was with is like, really good. He is world champion at landing in the spot he is suppost to 3 times running. That sounds lame but its quite hard. And also people who say it is a lame title have probably never been sky diving.
Then we went down to the lake and rowed to the island becuase we couldnt swim. It was most joyous. Though we crashed into another persons boat at one point and I nearly knocked the person out with my ore becuase he had to duck quickly to miss it. But it was ok, they werent fussed.
So that was our day! Pretty good huh? I bet your thinking that it was better than your day? Yeah, it probably was. I mean, sky diving. Come on.
Tomorrow were moving to Hungary. Which is ironic becuase whilst being away we have learnt not to be hungry. For example today we have only eaten 1 slice of pizza each. And were not hungry! And its 730pm. Mad.
