For once the picture actually corrosponds to where we are...
Since our last BLOG we spent 2 nights in Ljubljana. We were supposted to stay 3 but ended up cancelling our last night becuase there was not enought to entertain us. We have high expectations you see. Like the book.
Ljubljana was alright, some parts were pretty but others were, in Bs words, really not. We arrived at 9ish on the bus after crossing the border from Trieste, it was a fairly adequate bus journey, we sang all the way, much to the delight of our fellow passengers.
So when we arrvied, to our DISMAY there was noone there to pick us up like they said they would. So we called the man, Marko, and said, where are you Marko? And he rushed to our aid. He was hillarious. But not becuase he was a funny person, mainly because he was quite fat and laughed at everything. And I mean everything. We were in the van on the way back to the hostel after we found him talking to strangers trying to put them in the van... he thought it was us... there was various crashing sounds from the front, and he kept bending down and muttering.
CRIPES! we though, were stuck with a loony!! But neigh, he said, "Im not crazy (laughter), its my little dog" and we said ah where is it, and he said its coming now! And the worlds smallest dog appeared from under a seat. It was called Kiko and was small than my arm. So small! I put him on my lap and he licked Bs hand so she smelt funny. Then we asked if it was a puppy and he said, "no he is just small". I think you had to be there, but the whole thing, the van, the dog, his accent, made it hillarious. There was much rejoycing.
Then we slept. When we woke up we went into Ljubljana on bus which was much nicer than English buses. We found the castle but didnt know how to get up. So proceeded to walk up a b**** of a hill. It took us about 20 mintes of scaling the landscapes and vast amounts and sweating and panting. B was wearing little sandles and i had my flipflops on, neither of which have much grip. And the path was shingle, so we were slipped all over the place.
Then we we reached the top and had a Sit Down for ages, we wondered into the actual castle. Pretty nice, but its been converted into a mega cafe. Very swanky and super cheap! It was only 2 for a fruit juice which is the cheapest weve found. Probably becuase were in eastern europe now, they struggle with the value of money. Or so we here.
Then after a beverage we walked up to the castle wall, the bits with the square things going up and down. We cant remember what they are called. Anyway we stayed there for about 5 mintues trying to appreciate the view but it really was quite hard, it was a let down. There were bonzer mountains in the distance but all we could see was a couple of nice old buildings in the town square and then the rest, the 'burbs, were all tower blocks. And becuase of the mountains in the background everything had been sandwiched in and it all looked a bit cramped really. So we left to get the finicular down. Which wasnt that great either. B was ranting about them but it was pretty lame really. She maintains that shes been on a good one though. 1.50 that was. 1.50 for an average view in a sweating box.
Then we peruzed some markets and ttrecked to a park which was MESSUV!!! It really was so big. Suprisingly we hadnt seen it from our view inspection which was odd. Probably hiding behind a tower block.
So then we came back a made food... we had a kitchen there so we could eat cheap. We also made friends with a french couple, called Sophie and Axel or Alex, we couldnt make it out and didnt want to ask again. We did banter for a while with beer, that was pretty good. We both agreed that it was nice to talk to someone other than each other.
And then today we waited around for Marko to turn up until 3PM!!! Waisted day. But we waited because we wanted to cancel tonight there and so he had the refund for us.
Tomorrow is Bs birthday and we are going to find something fun to do.
Were in Bled now, with the French people to, they came along. I recon they think were pretty snazzy really. Or bon, as the french say.
OH and last night there was a bon thunder storm! We watched it brewing and learnt what thunder and lighting in french. And during the night it rained like billy-o and loud lightening and everything! Tres bon, said the frenchies.
Until tomorrow (free internet!!) mes amies.
