So after a crap, yes crap time in Milan we have reached Siena and are currently at an internet booth booking places and stuff. So time for a proper update...
We arrived at Milan (B pronounces it Mil-arn) 31st, which was Sunday at 9.30pm. It was dark. And we went to the metro to try and get to our redicidency but alas, to no avail could we understand anything. We couldnt even find where we were suppost to be going, or where we were. Pretty unsuccessful I must say. So we Changed The Plan and got a taxi instead, which was a little more exponsive than we would have liked but it was dark and we are only small.
Oh before that we were stranded in Lyon for a couple of hours becuase we couldnt decide which country to go to. Sounds more exciting than it was. The Plan was Switzerland but it was too expensive, so we had to change it and miss out Switzerland completely which we were both pretty peeved about. So Milan it was. And thinking it would be cheaper it turn up rather than book like my dad said (yes thats right, we called daddy) we turned up and foudn a convent. Ironic? We thought so. So after shelling out a pretty steep 30euros for 1 night (the nuns were screwing us over, for sure) we slept like babies. We thought that was proabbly becuase Jesus was there and it was a house of God and stuff. And also the beds were spongy. And there were showers!! Real working showers that didnt feel like a tall person was spitting on you! So we had loads of showers, just becuase we could.
On Monday we had to leave at 9 becuase we were thinking of moving on becuase Milan sucked so much. Ended up staying with the nuns again but thats in a bit... So we had breakfast of 2 chocolate croissants each in a tres bon Italien cafe shop. Then we had to find an internet point and spent literally and hour looking and asking lots of Italien people who all replied with "Mamma Mia, Engliasi!!" or something of the sort. Eventually tracked one down for 5 EUROS PER HOUR!! Ridiculous. We were not thrilled. But we did some hardcore booking and booked our next 3 places (and we just booked 2 nights in Florence too, from 9th to 11th).
After that we preuzed and walked for ages. Then we tried to catch a tram somewhere and everyone had tickets but we didnt pay becuase were rebels like that. We were looking for somewhere to sleep cheaper than the nuns but after about 3 hours we couldnt find it and were being directed all over the place. Hense why we bunked up with the nuns again.
Plus we were both secretly pleased about this has we had such COMFY SLEEPS!! But not comfy enough for 30 euros. "we wanted room service for that" says anna. Then, we had a little lunch and found a really impressive cathedral that Anna ended up eing too scantily clad for, so we could only look on the outside and take photos. (She wasnt naked, she was wearing a tshirt and shorts we'll have you know, probably should have namedropped our nun connections.) Anyway, so we (by that i mean me, B) took some photos and then sat for a bit as we were by this point feeling slightly fed up at our bad-Milan-experience and lack of Italian skills.
We felt rude and disrespectful cause we couldnt speak any italian whatsoever, although just about scraped by. So we decided to head back and actually inform the nuns that we would like to stay another night, however that took another hour as the tram (which was the RIGHT bloody tram number!) decided not to stop on our street and we carried on ...and on, before anna suggested we actually get off and change sides. so eventually we got back and were so exhausted we had a dinner of baguette cheese and salad for a bargain 1.50 each!! And then we did nothing. Which was a nice change and also we were very stressed and needed to calm down so we wrote in our thoughts and feelings and first impressions books!
Now we are in Siena, which is bon. TRes tres bon, and quieter, which we like. Looking forward to exploring tomorrow! Although admittedly we went to a McDonalds (which is just opposite and so cheap!) but we will compensate tomorrow with vast amounts of fruit and salad. Hurrah!
This was brought to you by Anna and B (we wrote some each to give you the full experience).
We might do another one soon, but were like having such a bonzer time.
Apart from Milan which did suck.
