A last minute, frantic email led us to the door of Shirley and Alan. They accommodated us for 4 nights, in a wonderfully safe location in Lima known as Miraflores. A great location for exploring the more affluent area of Lima. A day spent trawling the local artisan markets looking for memoriable artifacts to ship home, using our basic spanish skills to haggle prices, a custom they are used to with tourists. Dal being the most successful, using a white lie or two hehehe!! Vegetarian restaurants abundant so no going hungry here! ;)
We arranged to meet up with Eliana and her boyfriend (a friend we made in Huaraz) for lunch and a tour of a nearby neighbourhood, Barranco, known for it nightlife but a tranquil haven by day. A bus ride downtown to Plaza de Armas, allowing us once again to appreciate the spanish arquitecture. Followed by a visit to a trendy mall where we had our 1st STARBUCKS Frappuchino since leaving england, absolute heaven!!
Eliana arranged for us to sample the exquisite menu of an exclusive restaurant called Scenia. With Cirque de Solei type entertainment to enhance the experience. Maz ordered Pasta with Lucuma, goats cheese and crab pulp, salivating with every bite! Unfortunately Dal missed out on the culinary experience due to an upset stomach ;(
Our final morning was spent with our hosts Shirley and Alan who had prepared breakfast fit for a king! Kindly taking time out of their busy schedules to spend with us. With our ravenous appetites, we consumed most the contents without any problems whilst discussing past travel experiences and various topics.
Their children were very welcoming with Salvador offering us his room for the 4 days that we stayed! Aliana is a great conversationalist with perfect english....unfortunately she hurt her neck but this didn´t stop her from practising songs for a school event! Both have a great energy which made our stay even more enjoyable!
Lima is definately one of the most enjoyable places that we have had the opportunity to visit, plenty to see and do with a big melting pot of many different people from all walks of life. A true highlight of our trip to date!
