Erica's travels through Eastern Europe and Russia
St. Petersburg, Russia - Went to the Hermitage yesterday, and to my surprise I saw some DePaul U. students! Half way around the world and I'm attracted to DePaul like a magnet! Well, low-and-behold we had to part ways (they paid big money to get a study abroad trip, I'm just bummin' it). I also had a meeting with the Executive Director of AmCham Russia, which was very interesting and extremely informative.
Much construction is going on in St. Petersburg preparing for the G8. I'm really excited about both my conference and the G8. Tomorrow I'll be meeting with an organizer of a counter-G8 protest, so I'm very interested in the other side, too! And, OK, you got me - I'm getting a pedicure, a red, red pedicure. At least I'm not in the sun-booth! But tomorrow, too, I'll hopefully buy my train ticket from St. Petersburg - Moscow. I'll be visiting with another AmCham rep there, and I hope he'll have something interesting for me to do, because sight seeing is getting boring. Moooree interviews, I want moorrree interviews!
The weather is sultry -- again! It's absolutely hot here, and the hot water has been shut off until 20 July. Just after I leave... Well at least it's hot weather outside! I've been leaving big bottles of water lying around my room to get a little warm for my showers. Someone told me not to drink the water -- comparing it to Mexican tap water, with the possibility of Hep. A contamination. Well -- it's too late. I've drank the water, brushed my teeth with it, washed my feet with it. God help me, I'll wish for the best.
I love Western Europe and USA.... God save mother Russia.
