Erica's travels through Eastern Europe and Russia
St. Petersburg, Russia - Day #1 of "Russian Business" Conference, and there are a number of Finns, Austrians, Germans and Americans. We went for a quick coffee and pastry, then to a welcoming session - finally! A proper welcome to Russia! I was so very excited to see the mix of people at the conference is academic and business-minded, as well as a very interesting panel. I very much look forward to the rest of the conference. After seeing the intinerary, it seems like it will match my dissertation very well. Yay! We'll go for a boat trip tomorrow, and possibly a visit to a St. Petersburg pub tonight?
I'm taking the White Nights very well, I must say. Only 2 hours of darkness every day can make the sanest person a little crazy, but I've managed to fall fast asleep (and how!). And now, the weather is very Autumn-like instead of the sultry weather of my initial contact with St. Petersburg. Thank God!
Yesterday I attended a celebration sponsored by the American Chamber of Commerce for 4 July. It was great because I met up with some workers from the American Embassy in St. Petersburg, and even a few Marines! A very interesting bunch with a lovely pad next to the Embassy in central St. Petersburg - and their own driver. Fancy that.
Ahhh... alright. Russia is good. But first you must find it.
