Erica's travels through Eastern Europe and Russia
Moscow, Russia - Stick a fork in me, I'm done! I've seen the Red Square, and even from afar, I felt like leaving Moscow. What else needs to be seen? The Kremlin? The Basilica? The former KGB Headquarters? Alright, so maybe I'm just overwhelmed by the beauty and grandier of the square. Mind you, the church itself is only a few hundred feet wide, but its stature is serious.
And after a healthy night of fun, I woke up with a small headache. An interesting dance club called "The Real Macoy" was packed to the brim with people and they actually served - cocktails! I ordered a strawberry daquiri, just because I could. In fact, before I even ordered, I walked in and just stared for about 15 minutes. I saw different shots being prepared by topless tanned, buff men- lit on fire, shaken and stirred, mixed and blended. After weeks of being without a cocktail, I'll be honest -- it was a bit shocking.
I saw some very interesting exhibits today at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Some of them reminded me of DePaul art, which was very interesting. For example, there were a few projectors showed screens of Donald Duck rolling around on the floor. In one room, a microphone and large octopus-like contraption let you hear your voice echoed with a waterfall background.
And surprise, surprise a few days ago in St. Petersburg, I was told--1 week after I got to Russia that I probably shouldn't drink the water (comparable to Mexican H20) I felt queezy. Well after 1.5 days of feeling a bit queezy, I'll warn you - don't drink Russian water. You'll be OK after a few days, but give it a week, and you'll start feeling it. Some DePaul students told me I shouldn't even brush my teeth with it. Let alone drink it, liter by liter, wash my vegetables and fruits in it... Oops?
But I'll go to the Apetka (drug store) to tell them my problems, and I'm sure they'll fix me up back to new, so no worries. I'm sure I'll fix the problem before my next round of interviews (tomorrow - AmCham Russia Communications Director, the day after - Professor and resenter in Civil8).
Alright, so maybe God neednt save Russia.... Moscow is pretty rockin.
