I can't believe my European vacation is coming to a close! I'm on my flight from Ibiza to Barcelona, where I will stay for 1 night. It's bitter sweet really... On the one hand I'm excited to be back on Canadian turf with native English speakers and on the other I'm sad to leave this mish-mash of cultural dialects and lifestyles. I've booked myself a 4 star hotel to soften the blow and will have my first air conditioned sleep in the heat!
For my last day in Ibiza we took a little exploratory road trip to the top of the island where we could see Esvedra, the monumental rock of Ibiza. It is a massive protruding island that sits a few meters from the shore. It is accessible by boat where you can walk around on one side, but its edges are so grand and steep that it is really just something to be viewed from afar. Apparently, it is meant to house a lot of positive energy for Ibiza. When I first arrived and had my rental car drama, Ben, my flat mate said "Perhaps I wasn't meant for Ibiza". I was confused, but speaking with an Italian friend of mine she explained that people feel this island is a source of positive energy and places, like Prague, are not (I can attest to this). Anyway, hocus pocus, I don't know but Stephania's comments helped explain Ben's.
There is something about the sensuous cliffs and curves of this island that is indescribable. Its like a piece of art. Before I came here people scoffed at me, saying Ibiza was all about clubbing and partying- well I beg to differ, my experience has been rich. It feels like a European Hawaii with a good nightlife ;)
After walking to the high cliff to view Esvedra, we got in the car and sourced a secluded swim spot. This was one of those lucky moments brought in by being connected with a local. We tracked down the side of the steep cliff to the mouth of a small inlet where a few people were sitting, enjoying the sun. We met an Italian nudists who used his mask to guide us through the jellyfish filled waters to a rocky outcropping where we dove into the blissful crisp of the afternoon Mediterranean.
I said goodbye to my French friends for the last time and returned to my villa. I was instantly whisked into the car by the Italians for a night of dancing at club called DC10. I went to bed early (4am) and woke up a few hours later to pack and get off to the airport. I'm looking forward to being back in Barcelona for my last night!
