Ems and Steve Travelling
Hey!
On Wednesday we survived the elephant trek! We were sat on a chair type thing on the elephant and had a driver that stopped the elephant from constantly eating! We went through the jungle and then through a village. At first we felt a bit sorry for the elephant but then I suppose its just like riding a horse and we learnt a lot about elephants and the 'driver' was from Sumatra and he had come over with the elephants so obviously cared about them. We also saw the otyher elephants and went for a mini swim! Then we got a chance to ride the elephant properly on our own! I felt like I was going to fall off but Steve was a pro! When I did it before in Africa they sit much further back but the 'driver' was practically sitting on her head! The elphant was called Delhi by the way! We got back and chilled then went for a Mexican - very yummy!
Thursday we got up and went to the beach for a bit. The waves are HUUUUGE! There were a lot of surfers but not a lot of swimmers! We braved it for a bit but I kept getting knocked over and my pants fell down once! (underwater)! So we went back to the calm of the pool! At 3.30 we were picked up by our legendary guide Roy who took us to Uluwatu temple were there were loads of monkeys. The temple wasnt that impressive except it was on the top of a huge cliff and you could see the sea and cliffs etc! Also the monkeys were hilariuos to watch. Luckily we had been pre warned but a lot of tourists were loosing hats and glassers all over the place. One monkey even stole a water bottle, made a hole in it and then sucked out the water, it then unscrewed the cap and poured the rest all over itself! Next we went to Jimbaran Bay and had dinner whilst watching the sunset on the beach! The Bay is famous for its seafood, however this and the setting made it quite expensive. Saying that it was only about 30 quid for a whole platter of seafood including lobster, crab, prawns, mussells, fish and squid all as fresh as you can get (they were alive when we walked in!) with rice, soup and veg! We have just been spoiled by the cheap prices out here!
Today we were lucky enough to keep our room till 6pm when checkout time is 12! We just chilled by the pool and read for the day as we are leaving tonight! We went out for lunch and then chilled some more (its a hard life)! We have just had a shower and come to transfer our pics to CD (238 of them in one week - only about 10 weeks to go!) so we can send some home!
Our flight to Melbourne is at 22.45 (Bali time is 7 hours a head of UK) so we are going to miss the football. We will be up at 1am to watch the England match in Melbourne (9 hours ahead)!
We've had a great time in Bali. Although it wasn't as relaxing as we thought it would be we are glad we have seen bits fo ther island as the place we are staying (Kuta) is very commericalised and not the real Bali! We have also been offered 'honeymoon' prices by lots of the sellers so if you do come here on your honey moon make sure you take advantage of these!
We'll write again soon!
