Ems and Steve Travelling
Hey!
Well, as you no doubt know, we have made our way down under. Here in Melbourne the weather is fairly chilly tho we haven't experienced gale force winds or even heavy rain (just a few spots). We landed about 6am local time (which would be 9pm British time) after only having had about an hours sleep. We caught the "Skybus" from the airport to the city and then a taxi from there to the hostel. With not being able to check in until 10.30am and feeling rather tired we sat in the common area of the hostel looking for tours and things to do and see being deciding that we should check out the tourist information centre which to just be around the corner. From there we went back to check in to find out that we couldn't as the computers had died. Nevermind.
Melbourne's Aquarium was our first stop, here was the usual tank after tank of fish, turtles, crabs, seehorses, stingrays and sharks etc. There was also i giant frozen squid and went on a crappy simulator (which seemingly had no relevance to fish or any other animal). It has some fact about being the biggest or oldest in Australia but we can't remember what at the moment.
At the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) we saw a typical Aussie footy game - Melbourne Vs Port Adelaide - it didn't take long before Em started explaing the rules of the game tho she really wasn't sure of them herself. We also managed to freeze as the wind swirled around the stadium. 90,000 ish capacity apparently but only about 25,000 were there.
We were then in desperate need of a nap if we going to stay up till 3 am to watch the England game.
3 hours later we got up and went to the super market to buy some pasta for dinner before heading out to watch England. We were oringinally told that the pub only had a license until 3 am and so we thought we would miss extra time but the place stayed opened and we continued to watch and see them lose. Doh!
Yesterday, we got up late some time in the early afternoon - We quickly realised that it was a fairly miserable day and so we headed for Queen Victoria Market where Em bought some olives, sun blushed tomatoes and peppery things with cheese inside. We wondered round there for a while before heading to the other side of the main city area (via the free tram - which does a loop around the main city blocks) to Federation Square where we visited the Australian Centre of the Moving Image which was celebrating 50 years of TV in Oz. We moped around for a while before getting distracted by a computer game.
Afterwards we went and found a cinema and watched Over The Hedge - a little DreamWorks production, quite funny and filled in the time where we had planned to go up the Rialto Tower (but it was too wet and foggy).
It should be too long before we take advantage of the free internet again and come back to fill you in on today's events.
