Today I caught the bus with the intention of doing a 17 km circular walk out of Tunbridge Wells and back. I started by checking out The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells, which is a really cute old fashioned shopping area.
About 15mins into the walk i missed a signed footpath and went about 10 mins to far before i went back. In my defense the sign was hidden by trees and the path looked like every 2nd driveway that I had passed.
It was a very beautiful walk passing through loads of different countryside. The dense woods which surrounded me made things so humid, i was in England and i was hot and sweaty - first time for everything.
Away from Tunbridge i went through a pretty town called Frant. It had pretty, old church and 2 pubs and not alot else.
From there i went through Britains oldest deer park - Whitehill Wood, so old it's even mentioned in the doomsday book. I went through another gate after seeing alot of poo but no deer - maybe they had met their doom.
On the fence into the next section it has a sign which informs you there is a beef sucker herd grazing in the wood. It doesn't say what a beef sucker herd is or what to do if you run into them. Good thing the path didn't stray to far from the fence cause i figured i could jump that if the need arose. But in this field i saw deer, no beef.
Along here the track got really muddy and there was a lake that was fenced off and marked private fisherie no public footpath. Then further around the path goes right along side the pond. What happened to private?
Then i went past Eridge Green - heading to Eridge Rocks. A rock formation which has the texture of honeycomb and crumbles away into your hands. From there it was across a couple of fields, feeling very exposed with the sound of gunfire coming from 2 different directions.
Next interesting detour was Harrison rocks where i watched some rock climbers, and detoured to get a better look at the formations. The headed into Groombridge where i decided to end my walk after 11 km, and leave the last 6ks for another day, because i was worried about missing the last bus back to Crawley.
