Today I took the train to Arundal to visit the still lived in castle. Walking from the train station to the city centre the castle dominates the skyline. Its a quaint little town with antique shops, cafes and pubs.
Walking through the castle was amazing. The stairs were far easier than Warwick Castle & there wasn't many twirly stairs. Some parts of the castle are from the original building in the 1100's, most of the castle was modernised in the 1990's.
The guest bedrooms were open today, so it was fun being nosy. These rooms are still used for guests so still work. The ensuites all still have those big deep old style baths - they looked nice and relaxing.
Walking through the main hall there was a Castle employee who fit the stereotype for an english professor right down to the tweed jacket. He loves that castle and wanted everyone to listen to him prattle on.
The Earl of Arundal's family photos were in amongst paintings from the 1400's. For security reasons there was no photography within the castle.
Outside the castle, the gardens are amazing. They have so much land still. The kids that live there could have an amazing game of hide and seek. The most striking feature of the gardens was the water feature with the floating spinning crown.
Then I headed to the Cathedral which housed the parish of Corpus Christi. It had alot of stained glass and a huge organ. It is where the regions bishop is based.
It was a very nice day.
