I spent all day yesterday (10th Dec) attempting to pack up and trying not to think about the now throbbing, aching itching in my leg! Charles took me to the pharmacy where I was given some antiseptic cream to put on and he offered me some of the antihistamines they had at home. The pharmacist explained that's it's not uncommon to have flare ups for up to a year after the initial sting. So that's great. Managed to pack everything successfully, had an amazing dinner of leftover roast pie and some homemade lemon slices, and said goodbye and expressed my sincerest gratitude to Charles and Majo for being so accommodating.
Was up at 2:50am today and made sure everything was in order and was picked up at 4am by one of the most miserable taxi drivers I've ever had. No matter, it was stupid o'clock and I was in no mood to chat anyway. I dropped my bag off and then went to find some reading material so I had something to do on the 4 hour flight. Boarded plane and to my surprise there were TVs on board! I was in two minds - happy that I could watch TV instead of read the book that I'd bought as it didn't actually seem very interesting, and annoyed that I could have saved $20!
Couldnt' believe how good the domestic flight was - not only did we have our own TVs but we were also given a pretty decent breakfast (decent by plane food standards). There's not a chance in hell you'd ever get this on a short haul in Europe! However, despite the positives I still managed to be seated in front of a screaming child, who threw a tantrum and kicked my seat the entire journey. The descent was very bumpy and so I had to massage my knuckles upon landing.
Met Ken at baggage claim and we had a very slow journey back to theirs due to the Friday afternoon rush hour traffic. It's a lovely house, Ken's office on the ground floor (like a maisonette) and the house on the level upstairs. I was given the guest room, with loads of space and a double bed to myself, and they have 2 spas, 2 chooks and a Nixon! Ken then cooked me a nice lunch of poached eggs and an English muffin with their huge poacher, after which I spent the afternoon unpacking and sorting my life out.
Miriam returned from work and we chatted and then cracked open the wine (Madfish SBS) and then had lamb rack for dinner accompanied with some surprisingly tasty Shiraz. Finally some decent Australian red! I went to bed and was just drifting off to sleep when Jess decided to come home and throw herself on top of me! We had some catch up chats and both fell asleep in a wine-induced stupor.
