So today was the day I was to commence to most epic of all roadtrips. The 2350km drive from Broome to Perth. Solo. So ready for this! Got up and showered, had breakfast, said our goodbyes then went to fuel and caffeine up. I had previously arranged with Tom that they were going to take Charlotte to the airport so that I could get on my way, which was very nice of them.
The drive was AWESOME. As soon as I hit the open road I had my music on full blast, singing at the tops of my lungs and just generally having much more fun in the car than I'd had the previous two weeks. Stopped at various places for fuel and ice cream (Sandfire roadhouse of course), and amazingly I only felt sleepy once, so I promptly sprayed myself in the face with water and after that I was fine! I felt so sleepy on many occasions travelling up the coast, which I now realise was due to the dreadful company I was in. Anyway, stopped at Port Hedland for a chicken wrap and another coffee (just in case) and headed for Fortescue where I had found a caravan park. However, stopping at Karratha I was pleasantly surprised to find it was an actual town and quite a nice one at that.
Found some free public showers and toilets on the app and then went and had a quick mooch around the mall. I decided to have a proper dinner tonight as there were so many places to choose from. So where do I go? McDonald's. Well done Emma, great choice. But at least it was more substantial than biscuits and tinned tuna. Bummed around in the car for a while before searching for a place to sleep where I wouldn't get penalised. Ended up down a residential road next to a huge boat.
