An early start today after a great nights sleep! An interesting breakfast then day one of our tour!
We headed to choprayam river and boarded a khlong boat to your the canals. This showed the vast difference between rich and poor with big palatial residences beside small wooden homes. However, of the smaller and sometimes run down homes, most of them had a satellite dish! Some of the smaller homes had extensive damage from the recent floods. Our local guide, mr song kum, microphone broke so we didn't get a talk about the sights, but it was nice floating down the river.
We then got off the boat and headed to Wat Po, the home of the reclining golden Buddha. It was massive and too much to fit into one photo! It had beautiful mother of pearl feet and ornate pictures of thai life on the wall and roof. There place was made up of many different temples and each was very beautiful. Some local people were there celebrating Chinese new year. Some families were with their loved ones tombs with food offerings and to pray to the Buddha.
We then had a rather sweaty walk back to the hotel, we were famished so went to the first place we saw! It wasn't the best food but it hit the spot.
We had a couple of hours to kill before our next group activity and I wasn't keen on seeing much more of Bangkok so Paap and I went for a swim and relaxed by the pool.
5pm and it was time to head for the train station to catch our overnight train to Chiang Mai. The train left at 7.35pm and is due to arrive in Chiang Mai at about 9.30am.
The train had 4 berth sleeper style which was pretty new, clean and comfortable. Paap, Lindsay, Pip, Tony, Sabrina & I chatted for a bit,
ate some local junk food then hit the hay!
