We had a full day in bangkok and thanks to what I assume is jet lag we were up and about by 8am...
After a breakfast of cold toast and strange orange juice we tried to walk to a Wat Arun. I got Paap and I a little lost! We got helped by a number of Thai fellows although we were suspicious of all of them. I didn't want to get hoodwinked into buying a suit, some silk or another item.
We then found out it was Chinese new year so some of the temples were closed. We ending up taking the advice of a man and got into a 'govt' tuk tuk. Of course he ended up trying to take us to a silk shop, which we adamantly didn't want to go to. So, after much banter with the driver we saw the marble temple and standing Buddha. After that we had enough of the whining tuk tuk man we then headed back to the hotel to escape the touts and the heat!
After some lazing about and a nap we had a swim in the lovely hotel pool. Then, an hour long thai massage which was absolute bliss! My back cracked and it was so loud!
We also met our tour group this evening that we will be spending the next 30 days with. The tour leader's name is Long and he is from Cambodia, he seems like a good bloke and a little bit cheeky! On our tour there is Lindsay from Brisbane, Tony from Melbourne, Pip from London, Sabrina from Germany, Steve & Bernadette from Switzerland and John & Lisa from UK. It's quite a mix of ages from about 25 to 60yo.
We were pretty b*****ed by the end of the meeting so we had a quick cocktail, scoffed down some Thai KFC then headed to an early bed! FYI the fried chicken was top notch but the chips were terrible!
