Wrapped up warm against the biting Atlantic wind, we headed south with our over enthusiastic tour guide to visit the colony of Magellan Penguins. Surprised at how far they migrate in land to nest, we soon found ourselves surrounded by mating pairs - 500,000 at the last count.
Emmas fondness of the cute little critters led to much 'cooing' and mimicking of their hilarious little waddle. We were surprised at how close you could get to them and the penguins had right of way whenever they wandered onto the path. We took some time to watch them frolic in the surf (they are much more agile in the water!) then we headed back to the bus as the rain was now coming in on the horizontal.
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) the captain decided the weather was too dodgy to launch the boat so we couldnt go orca and black and white dolphin spotting and headed for Gaiman for some Welsh tea. It was very bizarre to be sat in a little tea room with Welsh tea towels and doileys on the walls, the tea was the best we've had in 4 months though!
We killed a few hours in the evening with some souvenir shopping before boarding the overnight bus to Esquel.
