The Weird & Wonderful Adventures of Emma, Len & Jo
Hello!! My goodness, this one is going to be a long one - we have done so much and had the best time so now you all have to suffer through it! We arrived in Alice Springs and booked ourselves on a tour for the next day. Heehee, now this tour....basically we were hiking up very big hills/mountains/canyons and camping on the bush floor in a swag bag (Not like a bank robbers unfortunately - I know I was upset too). Right so the first day we were up at 5 and headed off to Uluru which was about 6 hours away in a lil mini van that looked like a VW which made me happy! (Work people: the bloke who took us was Neil's Aussie twin I swear, can't get away from him!) Anywho, the tour leaders name was Chris and he was an Aussie bush man who was just a little bit insane! The 6 hours flew by so that was good!! The first day we went to Uluru (Ayers Rock to the uncultured lot :oP).When you first see a giant red rock, its not Uluru! Its Mount Connor and your still about 2 hours from Uluru! It was amazing though driving up to the real thing, it looms in the distance and everything around it like moves along as you drive but it just stands there staring at you! Its really weird but amazing! Em and I didnt climb it, only out of deference to the cultural beliefs of the Aboriginals of course, not the fact that is was 35 degrees in the desert and the tiny lil rope that you climb with didnt startt till half way up! We adopted a new girl Edel and did the base walk - Lordy it was hot out there! You'd think we were camels the amount we drunk! Took us a loooooooooooooong time - tis very big dont you know! A few people did climb and they looked like they were about to die! We had dinner at sunset overlooking Uluru and guess what we had?? Camel Chilli! Twas very nice! But there was us lot all drinking beer and sitting on the floor while all the posh tour groups had table cloths and champagne! We werent very popular! I made friends with an Emu bus driver because the only thing missing was a loo on our party bus!!I ADORE THE EMU BUS MAN! Anyway, we spent the night camping in the Uluru resort camping grounds, in sleeping bags in swags on the floor! At least there were toilets that night! Some dingos came up and started howling in the carpark next to where we were so Emma didn't get much sleep! We had a bonfire which made it so hot none of us wanted to get in our bags! I actually slept really well! Will dso day 2 on another journal so that you can have a tea break!! Love Lennie xxx
