SKY DIVE DAY SKY DIVE DAY!!
Well...our day started at about half 5 and we werent really expecting to be able to do the dive. The clouds were covering the mountains around the hostel and the forecast wasnt the best! Anywho, the woman turned up at 6 oclock and said that we wouldnt be able to dive then. The clouds were too low and so they were postponing it till half 7 to see if the weather was any better.
So anyway we sat around playing cards, watching as the weather around Franz Josef got worse and worse and the woman comes back and says they are going to try and do the jump! Apparently the weather was better over Fox Glacier where we were gonna fly from and over!
It took about half an hour to drive to the airfield and we were met by INSANE tandem jumpers and a teeny tiny plane!!
Anyway, we got suited up...very attractive leather rear ended jump suits growl! I had a bit of an experience with a strange German boy called Jurgen who wanted to see if I had any feeling in my bum under the leather...but lets not talk about that! There was enough of that in Em and Jos flight!!
Anywho, I went up first with another girl so that Jem (Jo and Em) could go together and scare eachother (cunning plan you see!), they made a sky diving video for me which is just insane!! SO not what I what I was expecting!
Anyway, once we got through the clouds the views were UNBELIEVABLE! The sky was bright blue behind Mount Cook which was only around 200 ft higher than the height we were jumping from (12,000ft baby!) and the clouds looked like a thick layer of snow. It was unbelievable, absolutely stunning. We were allowed to take our own cameras up with us and on the jump so plenty of photos to bore you with!
We had a good 5 minutes flying around appreciating the sights and then the doors opened and we jumped out!! I know Jo for one LOVED the freefall bit! It was the strangest feeling...my guide kept doing forward rolls so I kept seeing the plane...and again....and again! it was such an assault on the senses as well, a lot of noise and sights to take in - it was awesome!!
Jem's guides opened their parachutes as they were going through the cloud layer but mine did it after we had gone through it which was better for me cause dumbo over here held her breath when she entered the clouds and couldnt hold it for that long! Idiot!
Once the parachutes were opened the views were still pretty amazing, photos were taken and Jem both got control of their parachutes and turned them around (something I think Emma would rather forget about!). My guide made us go round and round in circles as we were landing in a field of sheep! We were meant to land there I swear but it was still very amusing watching them all running from these weird people falling from the sky! My guide had to remind me to stop looking at the sheep and look at the view!
All in all we had an AWESOME time - it was so so good and the views were just amazing - defo do a dive there!!
