Hello!! Right, we left Christchurch today to start our wee journey around NZ hobbit styley.
First stop was Kaikoura for the night....not much there really, its a really cute sleepy little town that has lots of seals and dolphins and whale watching ness. The views on the way were amazing...there were snow capped mountains with reindeer hanging about in the field next door - very christmassy therefore very cool!! Kaikoura is on the waterfront with mountains and fields all around...very beautiful.
Anywho, typical Lemjo styley we brought the English weather with us and it was freeeeeeezing and rainy so after a stop off at the wool shop for scarves...and a few stops at a coffee shop for hot choc and cakes we hightailed it back to the hostel to play games!
We had the best night! We had highly amusing couple (Atle and Janni who will appear in many a tale in the next couple of weeks!) in our room and we sat around playing cards and attempting to learn Norwegian rules games (Atle rules and proper rules differed slightly and he didnt win half as much when Janni told us the real ones!)
The next day after yet another visit to yet another seal colony (seriously they are very cute but 7 visits to colonies are enough for one day!)we carried on to Picton for another night. Again a slightly bigger town than Kaikoura and soooooooooo cute! The hostel we stayed in was a wee purple cottage type thing, so cute and complete with a tree house for us to play in!
Shockingly the sun was out in force and so we lazily decided to get some beers in a sit around in the garden drinking and playing more games (we did come to enjoy the splender of the country honest...great views of the mountains from the garden i swear!
Anyway, we happened upon a game where you have to get people to guess a word or a person without saying the word - very interesting playing with 2 people whos first language is not English!! To be honest though - their English was probably better than mine and they were ebtter at the game than me...although trying to describe hopping to them was interesting - learning new words all the time!!
Janni adored this game and we ended up playing it for about 7 hours if not more! Very perculiar!!
The Kiwi Bus hop on hop off thing is not really working as the buses are so busy you cant book a place on it for ages! We are therefore stopping in Nelson (the next stop) for a good few days so fingers crossed for good weather and more board games!!
Speak soon love len xxx
