Feels like a long time since ive updated my blog!!! been through uruguay and now in buenos aires at the end of our group tour. Just checked into a new hostel where we will be spending the next week in buenos aires. Glad we´ve got a while here cos means we can take our time exploring the city...lots of shopping and lazing around in parks and cafes!!! sounds good huh!
Well I wouldn´t recommend uruguay to anyone! the spa in salto was basically a group of hot swimming pools outside which we sat in for a good few hours till we were very prune like!! was raining though!!! thought we´d treat ourselves to a 30min massage which was ok until they used hard tissue paper to wipe the oil off your body - ouch. there isnt much more to salto than that!!! town was pretty deserted! but does have the advantage of serving very large portions of food for very cheap. look out for my chicken schnitzel photo on facebook!!!!
then we went to montevideo. heard alot abotu it so was excited to be in the capital city. However, again it was a disappointment. its so ugly! I planned our own walkng tour of the city but the few museums i wanted to visit were closed and the city is much quicker to walk around than i thought! we were done by lunchtime!!! was looking forward to a lovely stroll along the river plato until i discovered that it is the yukiest brown water! barney found it very funny at how upset i was! meanie!
there isn´t much there so glad we weren´t staying too long. we were gna make a visit to the football stadium but glad we didnt as those who went said it was really dirty and not that impressive.
so our last stop in colonia pushed uruguay up slightly in my estimations!! it a a really pretty town. really really tiny so again wouldnt want much time there. we were staying in the prettiest hostel with a roof terrace overlooking the river. just wondered around the town for a few hours and then sat on the terrace with a couple of the girls from the tour for a drink before going out for dinner. Colonia (and actually the whole of uruguay) are famous for their homemade pasta. was really really good - had black ravioli filled with salmon. excellent! another famous dish of uruguay is called chivito - basically a big pile of chips topped with a steak topped with ham topped with cheese topped with an egg. pretty impressive i must say! heart attack galore!
so colonia is worth a visit for a nice romanitc relaxing night. but very glad to move on to argentina and to buenos aires. Was strange as most of our tour group weren´t staying on in buenos aires after the tour so had to rush around to fit in seeing the city. Barney and I have 9 days here so are taking it really casually. its nice actually to jsut be able to relax and watch the world go by rather than jsut rush around to fit in all the touristy bits.
our second day here we wondered around hostels to find one forthe rest of our stay here. just checked in and enjoying the free internet again! will be able to upload my photos later i hope.
trying to make a few plans. may go to a football match at la boca stadium on sunday, a tango show at some point and id like to spend a day in the countryside at a gaucho house where they do dancing and horse shows etc. Food here is great. there´s these restaurants with massive grills where you just point at what you want and you can have as much of anything. sausages are great! and then theres massive salad bars which you can visit as many times as you like.
check facebook soon to see photos. got a lot to put up!! hope you are all ok. let me no any exciting news!!! or boring news - just nice to hear from you!
love to all xxxxxxx
