We arrived in El Calafter yesterday. That is right down south in Patagonia (southern Argentina(. Flight took about 3 hours from BA. It was continuing on down further to Ushuaia which is meant to be amazing...dnt no why we didnt even look at going there! didnt hear bout it till we were in BA! o well.
We were meant to be leaving El Calafate today and heading to Puerto Natales which is where our ferry leaves from on Monday. We were booked to do a tour of the National Park on Sun day through the ferry people which is why we were leaving today. However, when we arrived here, everyone told us we were mad leaving so soon and not going to see the glaciers at Perito Moreno. We didn't know much about it and thought we would be seeing enough glaciers in the national park and on the ferry trip. However, considering the looks we were getting we thought we should change our plans. We managed to change our transfer to Puerto Natales to tomorrow so today we are going to do a day trip to Perito Moreno. It's expensive but we can get a boat ride all the way up close to the glacier. Gna be amazing. There was an option to do ice trekking but its so so expensive. I'm not so bothered but htink Barney really wanted to do it so its a real shame. Hopefully today will be enough for him. THen we are still able to go to the National Park on Monday. so it has worked out perfectly!
On our final day in BA, we went to find the immigration museum, which was closed, so then wondered on to the museum of latin america where they were holding an Andy Warhol exhibition. Think we were the quickest ones to walk round!! It was the wierdest thing. Lots of selfportraits of him dressed up in drag and then a wierd video watching the facial expressions of a man receiving naughtiness *too rude to write!*
Our last night in BA was really nice. We met up with some guy from redbull who took us to a coffee house in the trendy part of town. Thought he was taking us for cocktails but o well!!! Then Barney and I went out for dinner in the port..place called Asia de Cuba. Had such a yummy meal and was nice to be able to sit outside and watch BA go by!
It turns into a massive nightclub at 1am so it was funny to see people arriving as we were leaving, all dressed up. Felt abit under dressed!
El Calafate is a really cute but tiny town. Full of tourists *alot older than us* so its an expensive place to be. Kinda feels like a ski resort. Lots of wooden chalet type hotels and hostels and wooden style restaurants. And the air is really fresh here like u get on the slopes. Definately can feel the temperature change..got 3 layers on today!
well off to the glacier now...normal everyday adventure! xxx
