Eleana's African Travels
Hi everyone! I know it has been a few days since I last wrote. We have limited internet access so it will be like this for the next 4 weeks until we go back to Johannesburg. Hazyview is amazing. We are staying at Japie's dad's farm in a little house. It is amazing. I look out my window and see beautiful trees and sky, there is even a little water fall. The farm is amazing I can just walk down the road and pick all the fruit I want, I can squeeze fresh orange juice every morning. (If I get up early enough) We started work on Monday. We have been working with an electricity company and their employees on assessments and improving their health. Most of the employees are in poverty and they can not read or write. Most know English but they speak Afrikan or their other native language. When we were introduced as Americans they aked for money and called us Bush's children. It was very funny. What amazes me is that some can not read but they all have cell phones. High technology just not education. We will be working with the same company for the next few weeks, but next week we will be working with the AIDS Orphans. We get to deliver them mattresses. Mom has been sending out emails because I need your help. I have decided to do my major peoject with the AIDS Orphans. I want to collect toothbrushes, toothpaste and teddybears for these 300 children that have nothing. Their parents have died from AIDS and they are placed into foster care where the government provides their foster parents with about $2 a week for food and supplies, and like in America that is not enough to live on. I will get to meet these amazing children next week so I will be able to tell you more. But if you have any questions please get in contact with mom because she has a little more information. Well it is time to go to work bright and early at 6 am. The dogs are barking at the hippos again! Miss all of you and hope to be able to write soon. Love ya!!!
