Today we decided to head off down the road south of Cairns. Our plan was to reach as far as Innisfail. We planned to stop at a few spots we had researched online. Our plan did not include the torrential rain that occured for the whole day.
First of all we headed to Babinda Boulders. This is a swimming hole surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. Further along from this swimming hole there is a section of fast flowing water which rushes over the boulders. This area certainly wouldn't be used for swimming, and has in fact claimed many lives.....Though scary to think of this being so dangerous, to stand at the side and observe the water and the boulders it is stunning.
We spent quite a bit of time here, under our umbrellas and getting drenched. I did go in the water, but only up to my knees. It was far too wet and cold to go for a swim unfortunately.
After we were back in the car and dry again we drove down to Innisfail, again due to the rain we just drove about and had a look around before setting off back up the road.
On our journey home we stopped at another tourist attraction Josephine Falls. There was a walk to get to the falls and again it continued to rain. We didn't get too close as it was so wet and slippy, but we managed to get a good view of it anyway.
We cut our day short and gave in to the horrible weather and headed home to get dried off and warm.
I really enjoyed Babinda Boulders and wish the weather had been better, but We didn't let it ruin the day.
