We eventually managed to get out onto the Great Barrier Reef to do some snorkelling. I also came prepared this time and took a sickness tablet before even stepping onto the boat.
What an amazing day. We arrived bright and early at the marina in cairns and boarded our boat. On the way out to the spot we would be snorkelling in, the tour guides went through a lot of info and gave us a presentation on what we would hopefully see.
We were then taken to get wetsuits, goggles, snorkels and flippers. I also chose the optional life jacket too........and then were helped into the water. We rented an underwater camera for the day, so I was in my element clinging on to the camera and hoping I wouldn't drop it.
It was amazing to be out on the reef seeing it all. Some of the coral was amazing and we got to see lots of different types of fish. I even saw Nemo........I got some really good pictures of everything and was even snapped myself with some lovely fish.
It is such a shame that the reef is being ruined, years ago it would have been lovely and colourful, now in places it is very dull looking, though still amazing to see. I fear what it will look like in the future though. I can see why the locals are fighting so hard to protect their beautiful reef.
We were given a lot of time in the water and went to a couple of different locations, lunch was provided on the boat also and we arrived back into Cairns about half four.
What an amazing day and I am so glad we hired the camera, as have some brilliant pictures and memories to keep.
