Had to wake up in the crazy early hours of the morning to get to my medical by 7.30. The mornings in China have something about them, was tired as hell but it was well worth it.
Got to the hospital at 7.30 and walked out by 8 after having an x-ray, ECG and blood test. This would take an age if it had been done in England. Part the rock star status, part Chinese efficiency.
Done so quick I picked up a breakfast of baozi and headed back to the hostel. Once again the two of us headed out to explore the more tourist areas, this time the terra-cotta warriors. To fill the day we will hit up the hot springs then on to the tomb of Qin shi huang. Im really getting to love this place, the busy streets and the hustle. Im feeling so happy and look forward to meeting Meredith in the common are cause I know it means another adventure. We got to the train station and located the bus to the tomb. Meredith got us the right ticket to get off at the hot springs and we settled down. Its about a 40 min journey to the hot springs but the smog didn't thin even a little and you never leave what I guess would be classed as the suburbs of the city. The hot springs were at first beautiful but a little underwhelming until we realised that it was about double the size we thought and beautiful. Set with the backdrop of Li Mountain it's a truly beautiful area. Ill go back some time to climb Li mountain as it has a Daoist temple at the top. Its sad about all the smog really, makes it hard to see or really appreciate the beauty of an area. Within the hot spring is a wealth of different time periods and beautiful architecture. You can wash your hands and face in the hot spring water.
After that we jumped on the bus, choosing to skip the tomb for time reason we went straight to the warriors. Its quite a walk from where the bus drops you off and the weather was the hottest its been since I got here. The type of heat is really draining but we marched on for half an age and finally got to the ticket booths. Then when we tried to use our tickets we got sent off to a different gate miles away. Not impressed and more than a little confused. After three checks of our tickets, through three different gates and after showing our student cards to three different people (Merediths was an American driving licence, its not like they read them) we finally made it into the compound. Enjoyed the walk around and the scale of it only hits you when your there in person. Quote of the day comes from Meredith: 'planning this and the mausoleum when your just 13 yers old….Qin shi huang was a bit of a pretentious b******.' Got some odd looks from Chinese while I roared at that.
Headed back in good time and found Wayne, sitting in the common area chatting away. Was awesome to see him, was grinning from ear to ear. The rest of that night disappeared in a drunk night of beer pong. Wayne has arrived!
