Today I realised that im running out of time to get my medical done so I headed off to the first hospital I could find on the map. Nice and easy to get to but that's where the easy bit ended. With some success I found my way to the area where laowai get their medicals. None of the doctors spoke even a word of English but we soon worked around that and clarified that they didn't have the equipment to do some of the tests. Somehow we worked out where I should go and I headed off. Got lost twice but got there in the end. With all the small stuff done Ill have to come back tomorrow to finish the medical but then I should be able to go to my uni and finish my enrolment. Its akin to being a rock star I imagine, getting all the attention and being led round everywhere and having my tests done first. Wont deny its great compared to being a number or less back home.
With a firm plan from the night before I met Meredith and headed out to the Bell tower and its sister the Drum tower. A short uneventful bus trip into the centre of town (we are bus pro's after getting lost the night before) we headed in to the tower. Im able to get student prices with my UK student card which makes all this much cheaper. My one piece of advice would be to not buy the audio tour. Normally im a fan but this time it really wasn't worth it. Beautiful tower and the music show was very good. Hopped over to the drum tower on our joint ticket and had some good fun looking around there. My personal favourite of the two and the drum show is amazing to be sure, powerful, moving stuff. With another moment of collective greatness we decided to go investigate the Muslim district and try the street food there. AMAZING! All I can say about it really, it has to be tried to be believed. During our walk we came across one of the smaller mosques but sadly was unable to go in as Meredith's outfit choice didn't work out. Instead we sat outside watching and playing with the kids until it was time for the evening meal and we felt it was best for us to go. Following the smells of the food we eventually found our way out of the maze of streets and on to a bus back to the hostel. After more beer than I was expecting we found ourselves alone, given the great responsibility of turning off the lights when we were done. A heavy burden indeed.
