We arrived in the Gold Coast to warm sunny weather.. The sun shining which was a plus after the tropical rain showers in cairns (didn't do wonders for our hair). We headed to our first hostel in surfers paradise..Wasn't exactly a paradise.. A rather built up city that was slightly on the tacky side - I mean shopping was good but still haha! We only ended up staying there one night and booked our greyhound bus down to byron bay the next morning! Arriving in byron.. The surfey, beachy, laid back atmosphere.. Just what we needed and of course the party collaborations in the evening ;). We stayed one night at holiday village however we didn't really feel too comfortable there so decided to move the next morning to backpackers inn ( felt at home then) - this is when I (Charlie) applied and got my first choice uni accommodation!! :D. On first getting to the hostel we met a lovely group of people from the UK - Emma, Tom and Gail.. Have to say we spent most of the time there with them.. Whether it be cooking, watching tv, surfing, walking up to the lighthouse with the leaches and much more! On the Sunday we had a surfing lesson with 'mojo surf'.. The instructors were legends and really helpful and we all managed to get up and surf some waves..(pro's obviously) We had gorgeous weather for it too! Moving on to Monday.. We had a pretty relaxing day as most of us were a little achy and sore from surfing.. Although in the evening we did cook ourselves some very yummy fajitas! (Me and Gail that is). Whilst we were all in our beds sleeping we stumbled across an unwanted visitor.. At 2.30am I (Charlie) woke up to a few loud bangs to finally see a trampy looking guy plonk himself on the floor and fall asleep ( thought he had just arrived) he said it was much comfier than the beach ( TRAMP) however the boy in our room told him to get lost at 6am as he was freaking everybody out...! The next day we went shopping and took a trip up to the famous lighthouse and stand at the most easterly point of the Australian mainland.. Pretty cool if you ask me.. However the weather wasn't too grand with pouring rain.. Oh well we can't complain.. We're English after all! The walk took us an hour and a bit there and back.. And as we were walking down, me, Gail and Emma noticed we had leeches on our feet! I managed to flick mine off quickly but the other 2 had to pop into subway on the way home to borrow some salt... All in all it was a memorable and eventful afternoon!
The next day was a pretty lazy one again.. As it was our last proper day in byron bay.. We sunbathed on the beach, walked around the shops, got takeaway pizzas from dominoes for $5 such a bloody bargin.. Large as well!! (Talk about travellers piling on the pounds.. Pretty easy with deals like this!) when we got back to the hostel.. Into our room the same trampy guy and his friend were there yet again.. So me and Jess went to ask if anyone had checked into our room (very suspicious) and nope they had not.. So the police were called and they were escorted off the premises.. Given a $350 fine for trespassing and a court order ban saying they couldn't be within 100m of the hostel! (They entered a room with all girls!) we were pretty upset the police didn't interview us haha :)
Anyway all in all we had a lovely stay in the Byron bay and when we got back to surfers paradise to spend the day before our flight (backpacks in a trolley.. Definitely looked like tramp ourselves!) we tried sushi for the first time.. Yucky yuck.. Didn't enjoy it!
Hope you guys are all enjoying the blog :)
Lots of love
