We have just returned to our ship from cusack show it's 11:45pm and the sun is setting?? It will be daylight in just a few hours.
We have had an interesting tour with a great guide who was happy to share the good bad and ugly of this now freer socialist country.
St Petersburg which up
to 1990 was Leningrad is just a beautiful city with some fabulous architecture, grand palaces built around the canals and river. It has lots of lovely parks and hundreds of statues from 18/19 century. There is a lot of history and far more style than Moscow just not the mafia money.
An abundance of art and culture and so much treasure it's obscene.
Shops are modern and display both junky tourist paraphanalia and expensive designer labels. Food is pretty standard with stroganoff the big line, quite tasty and always with potatoes and pickled vegetables. We have really enjoyed our Russian experience which is do different to what we imagined.
We finally unpacked tonight on silver whisper that also feels good. We are booked to the biggest museums, the hermitage, tomorrow but are tempted to have a lay day on the ship and we don't have a free day for the next week.
