After a beautiful cruise through the 100km entrance of the archipelago we arrived in Stockholm. The archipelago is covered in pines and there are some
beautiful holiday homes such as those from the girl with dragon tattoo. This city is similar to Helsinki but more interesting and not as sterile and feels much more alive.
They have an attractive city built on both the Baltic and the lake which is split by locks.
The old town based around the palace is amazing. With narrow cobble streets and old architecture dating back 3/400 years and across the bridge modern city with massive department stores and lots of people. Easy to navigate and find our way around.
We visited the vasa museum where a massive Viking ship which sunk 300yrs ago had been recovered and was on display. Quite incredible.
We waunered around skansen an old village depicting the old ways of existence where everyone was working like the Amish people in working style.
Became clear the public welfare state was being reined in and lots of services previously provided by the state were no longer free.
It's amazing that the things we know from Sweden were not on display eg Girl with dragon tattoo, ikea, abba, sports stars, blonde misses(sic).
Everyone is very nervous about the effects of euro and seem to expect the worst.
Although we all have the flu we enjoyed a group dinner aboard our fabulous ship where service is extraordinary.
Will upload photos when I can find a decent connection.
