Another great morning walk. Headed the other direction today through the historic district of Shipoke. a quaint neighborhood along the Susquehanna. It has one of the most unique row of houses in Harrisburg called Pancake Row. The decorative moldings are know as carpenter Gothic architectural style and the houses were built around 1880 as rental units for employees of the lumber mill owned by Alfred Pancake. Floods in 1972 and 1996 almost destroyed the houses but they have since been restored. We continued along the South Harrisburg waterfront towards an old large iron manufacturing plant that was disassembled in the 1970's. Phoenix Park is a lovely walking trail through the woods. We checked out and headed to the sale for day 4 to buy a horse. When we left home, Steve had picked out one horse as his #1 pick if the price was right and it was! We bought a beautiful black colt with 2 white socks, Hip # 1075 named I'm An Art Major (this was for Anne the Art major!). He will be home on the weekend. Headed on the road for our next stop. Drove over the Mason-Dixon line into Maryland and then through the scenic Shenendoah valley-beautiful rolling terrain and splendid views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Stopped in Harrisonburg, Virginia for the night. Ate supper at the Boston Beanery, a really cozy restaurant with excellent food, beer and great oldies music. The owner came over to talk and when he heard that it was our first time, he gave us a free appy-delicious crab dip!
