Hello,
I am now at my school. Have a room and havent settled yet.
lol, Our school is huge! So anyway yesterday we met our school rep whom ours is beautiful. She is a contemp muslim so in the city she didnt wear her head scarf and she also admitted to drinking and smoking. So she is half half. She is so lovely though. She has a two year old son and is 29. She looks half that, and is one of the oldest around here. She also studied in the UK for 6 years so knows where we come from to some degree. her two good friends from here are also so nice. So we are well looked after.
On our way to the school we stopped to buy some bits, like bread and Gatorade and toilet paper( they dont use it so dont supply it!)
We were shown our room in which is half a house. It has a small bedroom for us with a toilet and shower off it, a living room with 2 tvs and two more bathrooms with toilets and showers. and also of the living room is two bedrooms which sleep about 5 each.which explains the toilets. Is malaysia they don have a closed in shower so we decided to use one bathroom as a shower room and the other as the toilet. The bedrooms will only be used if a child is super duperr ill and needs to sleep. as the other half of the house is the sick bay. When going to the toilet they have hoses so the dont use toilet paper. FUN. we rearrange a fair bit to make it suit us, moving cupboards etc. So far no cockroaches! When they eat the use their fingers except breakky and they use a fork and spoon. the only eat with their right hand as their left is the toilet hand.
so anyway, the place is a little dirty so tonight i will scrub it up.
We introduced ourselves to the form 2 (14yr olds) and for 3 (15yr olds) and they were beside themself. Most have never seen 'white people'or heard our odd accents. its all very exciting.
Also today we got given 2 single periods a week of our own classes so we have to plan those out. for the rest of the classes we will help other teachers. Majority of the teachers speak very fluent english, because they now have to teach maths and science in english. So they all have practised more precise so they can talk with us. Oh and the men are just as freaky as home. They love to just crack crude jokes and laugh whilst the females tell them off. Give it a month they say and we will fit in!...
We met the prinicple who was beside himself to meet us. And asked if we could get the 5 weakest student of each class and teach them better english. thats 145 students between us for the next 5months. EEEK. The malays are very exam orientated so when its close to exams the world stops to study. for example the english department are very upset because 3 student in the whole form of 100ish student got a C. To us thats nothing but they are pushing to improve. This week tho is orientation so no classes untill next week.
we are very welcomed. And Nik our rep is going out of her way for us. hopefully after we settle more we will be doing 100% better!
I will get photos of the school and students soon. (oh and all but one staff member is muslim out of the females. The other is indian.)
So anyway thats alot to read for now, do email me, love to hear from u.
Love to all
Danae
