Donna & Neils Travels
Arriving in Mendoza at 7am, after a 19 hr coach journey, we were knackered but needed to get a rug, I had been carrying since Puyuhapi, to the UK. So after we got some digs we were off to the post office. Now, we`ve done this a few times now so you would have thought it would be easy by now, but no, every town has a different way of sending packages to England, and Mendoza was no different. After about half hour of waiting for customs to clear our rug, we signed all the forms, went to the post office counter, paid our money and it was off, HURRAH!!! This would make my rucksack loads lighter, but Donna also noticed this and after 20 minutes back in the room my ruck sack was full again, but this time with all Donna`s stuff.
We were in Mendoza for one thing and that was the Bodega's (vineyards to me and you). We decided not to go with a tour excursion, but instead find our own way there by local bus. We chose to go to `La Rural Bodega`just outside Mendoza, as it said that this was the best one in the travel book. This we did with not too much trouble, the buses have a big main number and also a sub number in the bottom left corner of the wind screen. So when we got on I asked the driver, in my best Spanish, if he could tell us where we had to get off and he seemed to acknowledged me with a grunt, well thats what I thought anyway. So, as we whizzed passed the sign for the Bodega I realsed that the driver wasn't acknowledging me but must have just grunted for me to sit down and shut up. Needless to say we did get to the Bodega and enjoyed the free tour and especially the free wine tasting at the end.
Here we met an English couple, Delia and Lee, who informed us that there was a homemade liquor and chocolate house (no the house wasn't made of chocolate, it was were they made it!!) nearby so we joined them, and an Isreali guy (can`t remember his name) for another free tour and samples of liquors. The woman here was a bit of comedian and gave a good witty, presentation. The liquors were delicious as well.
That night we got back to Mendoza and had a great meal with Delia and Lee, washed down with 2 and half bottles of wine. On top of the liquors, ended up a bit merry to say the least, but a great day.
Mendoza was a big city and we weren`t that interested in visiting the museums or sites. So we said our farewells to Lee and Delia, hopefully meeting up with them again soon in Salta, the next day and booked up a bus to La Rioja.
