Began the day by visiting St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral: rather a concrete block, but the Wall Street Crash put paid to Gothic splendour. Crossed the floating bridge over Lake Washington, and rather wished we hadn't as there was a toll but no booth, and it took most of this evening to pay it online! Then got a bit lost in upmarket subsurbs. No useful signs, just one that told us we were leaving the apple maggot quarantine area! Eventually reached Mukilteo, whence we sailed to Clinton on Whidbey Island. South W. Island seemed dull as the road was bordered by conifer forests and you couldn't see the coast for ages. Picniced at Oak Harbor where it was quite bracing, and a lady walking past said "What a FUN thing to do!" (Suspect she thought we were mad.) After admiring the view and braving the very high bridge at Deception Pass I discovered the 'Divine Divas of the Deep' at Anacortes. We found relatively cheap 'gas' on the Swinomish Indian Reservation', where tribal members were entitled to a further discount. On our last leg today we had to pass through Concrete! I love the bears in the Buffalo Run Inn. Now I shall go and watch yet another old episode of 'Frasier'!
