We headed off for Venezia rather early as it was to be an 8 hour drive. The scenery was spectular - passing the Cote d'Azur, rolling hills (if not mountains), over rivers etc. It was a spectacular sight to see glass houses, vegie gardens and vines growing on the cliffs.
We checked into the hotel then were off to discover Venice - we started off strolling around some of the back streets, seeing kids outside playing in piazza's with Nona. The smells of food were magnificent...Motto Bene apparently.
We then made our way to San Marco's square - they certainly know how to build an impressive sight! Some of the buildings looked a little grimey in places but this simple added to the character. We strolled along the Grand Canal over the Rialto bridge before stopping off to have dinner. We then hopped on the Water taxi which was great value - we were able to stay on it for 40 minutes. It gave a different view entirely when you were on the water!
The following morning we went and caught another water taxi out to Murano Island. On the way out there we passed an Island which was the Cemetery - elderly men and women were getting off with bunches of flowers.
As soon as we got to Murano we had a Gelati (yummo) then went into some of the glass ware stores (Happy to report Mr D didn't break anything).... Bought a nice necklace from here! We then got back on the boat and headed back to the Mainland, stolled around the piazza again and passed some other beautiul buildings including Campo dei Frari and Campo San Maria Nova.
We then thought it was time to call it a day so headed back to the hotel. We had a rest then off out to dinner!
Heading off to Tuscany tomorrow! Woo hoo....
