Hey Everyone,
Our trip on the Whitsundays was again another great experience. Like I said before it took us in the region of 11 and a half hours to get to Airlie Beach, which is the base for the sailing adventure. But when we arrived at around half nine instead of getting some shut eye we headed straight next door to 'Morocco's'. And after a few jaegger bombs I was all over the show! Oh dear...cant remember much. It must have been a good night. Surely? The next morning we had to get all sorted again, and we are without doubt the most unorganised group you could ever meet. We're rubbish. After finally buying the supplies, finding somewhere to park the car and store our bags we arrived at the marina a respectable 20 minutes late.
We set off at 1pm on our Sailing Boat called the 'Broomstick'. We chose this one because apparantely its a really quick racing boat and attracts travellers with the same interests as us! And she didnt disappoint. As we were the last ones to step foot on the Boat, we had the last choice of beds onboard. Now there were 22 people onboard and believe me there wasnt much room below deck for beds. Luckily though Me and Nick managed to grab a bed in the kitchen area. And although it was a tight squeeze, we didnt have to sleep in a hammock like the other 95% of the people on the boat. However just as we were ready to sit back and relax the crew needed six people to help hoist the sail. We were straight up there but it was really hard work but again I suppose we can say we did it! Anyway we sailed off towards the Islands and they were just beautiful to see. The next thing I know is the snorkelling equipment making an appearance. I definately missed a few heart beats...all I could think was that a shark would love the chance to take a chunk out of my ever growing belly . But was an experience. After putting the 'stinger' suit on and getting all geared up with the snorkel, goggles and flippers we were ready. The coral reef was amazing and the fish were swimming literally inches from you. I did take my waterproof camera so Im excited to see how the pictures come out. We then sailed off and the skipper 'Wendy' found us a spot to put the anchor down for the night. Now we didnt know what to expect with regards to the all important food onboard but it was incredible. We're used to noodles, but that night the crew cooked up us some chicken, potatoes and veg. Awesome. Went down a treat. That night we got stuck into our 'supplies' and started getting to know the rest of the people on the Boat. I think its fair to say that compared to Fraser, the group was pretty boring. Well we did get on with four girls from Nottingham and Cheltenham but other than that...I'm sure the fish below were better company.
The next day we carried on sailing around the islands and unfortunately because Me and Nick were sleeping in the kitchen area we were woken at 7am for breakfast. But the fresh fruit, toast and cup of coffee was a great wakeup. We then had the choice to go snorkelling again but the boys opted to chill on the boat and go later instead. I went for it with some other people on the Boat. The reef again was amazing but I did completely crap myself when I saw the biggest fish ever (it was a sea monster!). It must have been at least 6 foot long and when it started headed in my direction I definately got those flippers working. Looking back now it was great to see but at the time...After another near death experience (maybe not) we visited a beach after that and this was a cool spot to relax and just look at the surroundings. The crew (Andy, Janelle and Wendy) even brought us over some Nachos with melted cheese. They were devoured in record time...gorgeous! That night the crew cooked us up some steak, potatoes and pasta. Again with the kitchen they had to work with it was amazing.
The next morning after enjoying another amazing breakkie, we started our long sail back to Airlie Beach. It was a really great experience sailing around the Whitsunday Islands and is definately another highlight of our trip to date. The Islands and the sunsets were memorable but snorkelling part of the Great Barrier Reef was incredible!
Next stop off is Townsville, Magnetic Island, then on to Mission Beach to do that insane sky dive with Milsy and then up to Cairns and Port Douglas. Not sure on the exact date I'll be flying home yet but I'll keep u posted. But dont fear boys, il be back up those golden steps throwing some shapes very soon
