G'day All,
We are all now in Cairns and still buzzing from the sky dive (even though it was a fair few days ago!) We arrived in Cairns and as always had a little drive around trying to find a cheap/decent place to stay. After the usual lameness on our part we finally found a hostel; Koalas. Not bad either. On first impressions, Cairns is quite a small town but has a great vibe about it. The town centre was the place to be, especially at night. Now before we even arrived, all other people we'd met had told us to make an appearance at 'The Woolshed'. Every night of the week this place goes off, so ofcourse when we heard about this, we had already planned the nights out weeks ago.
When we first arrived in Cairns, we were unsure about how long we were gonna spend here. So basically we just paid the hostel daily for one night a time. Because Cairns is known for its nightlife, we weren't sure about what there was to do during the day. And seeing as we were all watching the "cents" signing up for treks into the rainforest or a two day scuba dives around the Great Barrier Reef were a definate no, even though we would have loved too. But seeing as we had already snorkelled a part of the Great Barrier Reef there was no need anyway. The best place to go to Cairns during the day was a place called "The Lagoon". This is basically a big outdoor swimming pool with loads of areas around the outside to catch those all important rays. And because Cairns is so far up the East Coast, the weathers just awesome. In the whole time we were there, I dont think I saw one cloud. Not bad hey.
The first night we had out was typically a Friday and after attacking the happy hour in our hostel we were heading straight for The Woolshed. And as per from there thats all I can remember up till the walk home. It turned out to be one of those nights when each one of us turns back at the hostel at different times. Now Cairns isn't a big place but in my state on that night I still got in the nearest taxi and asked the fella to take me to the nearest takeaway! The Kebab did go down well though . And then because I literally had a dollar to my name, it then took me a good hour to walk around and try and find Koalas. It wasnt until the next day that I realised from where I was to our hostel was only the next street down. Well...I guess I worked off that Kebab! The next day we just chilled at The Lagoon and spent the evening watching the footy. First up was the mighty Spurs taking on the Gooners followed by Charlton Shef United. So it was the perfect lineup for us boys. And not bad results either. Get in there Jenas, awesome. Then on our walk back, Me and Nick had the pleasure of meeting a couple of Cairns locals, Kylie and Natalie. Very nice girls who we would see again. That night, Me and Nick (well really me) was talking some right rubbish so girls I'll say sorry again . But the old UK is warm all year round...right? Well when the girls visit they'll see.
When we weren't down by the Lagoon in the day, we were down the park round the corner from our hostel playing a bit of cricket. Now that was hard work! Honestly the day after we would play cricket, all us boys would be walking around like old men. Stiff muscles all over the show. I think some of the guys are still struggling. But it was a good laugh playing cricket and ofcourse always nice hitting a few boundries off Miller (especially seeing as he was so hard to get out himself).
On the Monday night, the boys went out again. I would have but, unfortunately I was dieing. Well maybe thats a bit extreme but put it this way I was wrapped up in all my clothes shivering (I even had my footy socks on). How can you get the flu over here? Well I did! The next day, I went out for a drink with Kylie and Natalie. It was really nice to get to know them and the banter between the two countries continued all night. How do I have an accent? Australians speak English, English dont speak Australian!
The next few days I saw Hannah! Han's doing a world tour and just so happened to be in Cairns at the same time as me. It was awesome to see her and her mate Rach. Its the first familiar face I've seen in all of eight months. Han invited us round that night but because Mils and Miller were still feeling the effects of the previous night it was up to me and Nick to represent. Kylie and Natalie came too and after many drinking games the night soon disappeared! Again...dont remember much
Thats really it from Cairns. I have managed to get some more pictures uploaded from the other boys camera but at the moment I'm having problems with mine so hopefully I'll get them up in the next few days. The long car journey back down to Sydney will begin tomorrow, great! First stop Townsville again, then Brisbane, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour and the Sydney.
Just to let all you guys and girls know that my flights back have been changed. I'll be leaving Oz on my Birthday (great fun to be in a plane on the birthday!) heading to Singapore. Me and Milsy will then be getting a flight to Bangkok where we intend to buy a completely new wardrobe. Remember its soooo cheap! So get your orders in now. I've already had the one order (cheers V) so let me know. And Dougy, I'm not able to bring back a lady friend for you . Then on the 13th June is the official date for my homecoming. The Countdown has officially started. Its still great hearing from you all so bye for now and see you all very soon.
