Hey Everyone,
Since the last blog we've been staying in Brisbane. And its been a completely different week. Surfers Paradise was like a Club 18 30 Holiday, and by george we had a ball of a time! Unfortunately so did our wallets. It did basically mean that we had to be a bit more sensible this week and just save our pennies (whatever each of us has left) for the main attractions ahead.
When we finally arrived in Brisbane we managed to find another pretty decent hostel called the "Prince Consort Backpackers". This place is right bang in the middle of China Town. Lovely. In all the big cities we've visited theres always a China Town. Whats wrong with China? Anyways this hostel reminds me big time of a Youth Club. Its definately got that sort of vibe too it as well. You've got your free pool table and internet, TV area, and loads of chairs dotted around all over the show. The kitchen's just a disaster show though. Its sooo dirty and always dead busy. Plus all the fridges smell like my socks after a days use. What an odour that is by the way. The bedrooms not too bad, at least theres air con! The room has 22 beds. Yep...22! But to be fair for the first three or four nights, us five had the beast to ourselves. The Hostel too is above a pretty decent British Pub and during our stay we've managed a few free meals. You cant beat a tasty Chicken Schnitzel!
For the first few days we caught up with the Dutch boys, Rob and Tijn. Both legends. Now because Brisbane is a little more inland, the city's had built a manmade beach on the "SouthBank". So for the first two or three days (when the sun made an appearance) we headed straight down there with everyone. Always nice entering the "sea" with no worries or being paranoid that you've just seen a fin! Honestly I've lost count of the amount of times I've had to make a speedy (but cool) exit to the solitude of my beach towel. How am I gonna cope sailing on the Whitsundays? Gonna be a struggle! But since the first few days in Brisbane, the hot weather has been non-existent. Well its not cold...I cant remember the last time I wasn't donning a pair of medium (really?) sized shorts. But the weathers been overcast so no chance to top that tan up. I could swear each morning in the shower my tans just literally running off my body. Thanks very much!
And because the weathers been shabby on a few days theres really not else much to report. I mean theres no point going shopping. One because we're not women...and two theres no point window shopping. I mean its lovely seeing all these new tops that would look great on you. Maybe not. There was a Poker Night down in the Pub on one of the nights, which Me, Rob and Jake tried our hand at. Jake was first to go out of us three. There must have been about eighty people playing on a number of tables. I did manage to stay in there for a good twenty minutes, and even won a hand with two pairs. But after that I took on the wrong dude and was soon joining Jake and the boys in the audience. Rob did awesome, some how he got down to the last five players. Those dutch hey. But it was a pretty cool experience and something different.
We have sampled the nightlife a few times this week too. But Brisbane compared to Sydney, Melbourne or even Adelaide is average. On the Friday, we went to a bar called "Down Under" which is apparantely the place to go in this city. People had been telling us that its the equivalant on "The Gaff" in Sydney. Why would they lie?? On the Friday it was OK but last night honestly it was Sausage Central. Put it this way, when we arrived there was a dude on Karaoke singing along to a George Michael number. We weren't happy campers...theres just no need. But at least the night out on the Friday was another memorable night and so can erase all those bad memories from the karaoke.
We've booked up our trips to Frazer Island and the Whitsundays this week too so I'm really looking forward to them. They're both suppose to be amazing and places you'll always remember. We leave Brisbane tomorrow and are on route to our next stop off Noosa. This place is on the beach so hopefully we can start again on those tans. But before we get to Noosa we're heading to Steve Irwins Australia Zoo. Should be good, but Im staying well clear of those snakes.
And happy birthday to Gem and Dougie (I know it was a while back pal). And cheers for the email Belly. I've just opened it. Why would you send me a picture of you cuddling my cousin Claire!? All I can say to you son is...You Wish! But like I said to you in that email...Belly 1 Dela 0. Damn it!! Have a great week everyone.
