We crossed into our 6th state about late morning and cruised through the many lovely towns along the way - Portland (where a massive oil rig was docked for repairs), Port Fairy, and Warrnambool to name a few, before hitting the Great Ocean Road.
We stopped the night at Port Campbell and were lucky to get a site for Deefa26, due to it being the Australia Day long weekend combined with our nemesis - school holidays. A cute little town with a great pub feed and big screen that had the cricket playing (a theme has developed here, methinks).
The next morning found us and a few hundred other tourists waiting for the fog to lift, so we could count the remainder of the 12 Apostles, as well as see some of the other sights along this famous road. We made our way to Lorne with the now-thousands of tourists, as the long weekend was in full swing. Lea managed to get us a site for a couple of days in the van park, where Brandon, Ruth and Jacob had also found a home. It was a lazy couple of days taking in the sites and catching up with the guys.
A call from Tam & Greg enlightened us to the fact that we apparently had been on the run from the law - a robbery at the Victor Harbour caravan park on the morning of our departure had temporarily been pinned on Lee. Luckily the police investigation had already cleared him (his grey hair saved his bacon - long story), big thanks to Tam & Greg for dealing with the police on our behalf!
We finished our stint in Lorne with an awesome baked dinner cooked by Ruth, we think she was trying to outdo Tam & Greg's dinner at Victor Harbour, much to our delight!
We spent one night in a motel near Torquay before leaving the Navvy at Steve and Lisa's in Melbourne, for our sad detour to Merimbula to farewell Uncle Brian.
