Leaving Hotel Morgan for the last time, we headed back up to Mount Beenak, Mark and Fin's place in the Yarra Valley. We were treated to a couple of lovely days and some great feasts by Mark (unfortunately Fin was on a field trip for her university course so we missed seeing her).
Lee did manage to confirm that the Australian Bass that were put in the dam on their property had survived and grown some 10cm since being introduced last year, a healthy specimen being caught on fly. Probably the smallest fish that Lee caught on this trip, but exciting nonetheless!
The little penguins were calling Lea so a short drive south found us on Phillip Island. We circumnavigated the picturesque island before reserving a spot at one of the van parks, later heading out for the nightly penguin show at the beach. Just on dark the penguins would join forces in the shallows, waiting for a large enough group to come ashore, with safety in numbers. Racing up the beach past us they returned to their waiting young, very cute the little b*****s.
We hit the road the next day, sticking to the most coastal route possible and not quite sure where we would end up.
