The beginning of this blog entry is purely for those of my friends which enjoy "facts". I feel slightly dubious about the veracity of these after getting three different (quite) numbers on the population of Quito. However that being said here goes: • the world
famous Panama hats are actually Ecuadorian. • Cayambe volcano at 5790 m above sea level is the only snow peak in the world that is on the equatorial line. • Cotopaxi volcano, at 5897 m is the highest active volcano in the world. • a plant lover's paradise -
Over 25 000 species of plants. If you don't grasp the magnitude of that figure - Spain (where we were last year) which boasts one of the highest plant densities in Europe only has 7,000 species • In Ecuador there are 120 species of hummingbirds, 300 species of mammals, 360 species of amphibians, 350 species of reptiles, 160 species of non venomous snakes, 40 species of poisonous snakes (double yuck too many snakes)• sunlight 6:00 am to 6:00 pm
